We found everything about the Masons Arms to be exceptional. The property is well maintained and is located on a quiet street in a small village, which the setting allowed us to relax and enjoy the overall experience. The room was very well appointed, with a very comfortable bed and large en-suite. Dinner and breakfast in the restaurant was both very delightful.

The staff was very very helpful. They gave us a room with an excellent view along the Esplanade. The breakfast was really good. We also liked that it was shoulder season and had fewer people. It was really nice walking into town and along the coastal trail.

This Grand Old Dame of English seaside hotels is in sparkling condition throughout. She is not cheap - but she is an excellent hostess and she will fulfil your every wish if you let her. Some may find her old fashioned - but that is a major part of her charm. From Martinis in the afternoon to sunsets over the sea in the evening, she has everything you need for a relaxing weekend. The sound of the waves playing us to sleep at through an open window was an added bonus!

Our flight was delayed so we arrived after the restaurant closed. The owner and his wife made us welcome, even though they had closed for the night. They very kindly opened a bottle of wine and made us a wonderful dinner. Throughout the stay their hospitality was amazing. The owner would not let us walk to the bus stop, instead he very kindly drove us all the way to Sidmouth in his own car! They really could not have done more for us!

We stayed in Branscombe because it was close to the location we were visiting the next day. It was a lovely village and the beach was only half a mile away. We could've spent at least two or three days there at the hotel.

Comfortable large double bed and large room and bathroom.
Comfortable large double bed and large room and bathroom. But we gave manager a list of "niggles" (e.g. light in bathroom mirror not working) that were not put right during our stay. Decent food though sometimes overcooked. All staff very friendly and helpful including taking suitcases to our room - important when there are so many steps. Only outside space was immediately onto car park.= - no garden or lounge. Although we liked the hotel, overall we felt it was rather overpriced.

Beautiful village with lovely walks.
Beautiful village with lovely walks. We took the coastal path around the cliffs to Beer, which was challenging in parts, and the cliff top walk back. I’m so glad we did it that way round as the hill back down to Branscombe beach was so steep there was no way I’d have managed to climb it. We walked up the hill to The Fountain Head pub one evening and had a fabulous meal; would definitely recommend a visit as apart from the excellent food, the staff were great too.

Very pretty mostly unspoilt village with blacksmith and 10 minute walk or short drive to the beach. Not good for cars so ideal for walking and photo opportunities abound. Some interesting history around the older buildings

A secluded Devon valley setting along a long long narrow winding lane with glimpses of the sea. Steeped in history. Worth a visit to experience the absolute quiet.
There is a bus service from Exmouth to Seaton but how it gets down the lane???
The pub is situated in a very picturesque village. We were greeted by a very friendly man called Jose. He explained to us that due to staff shortages, a cooked breakfast would not be availabe during our 3night stay.
Instead, we had a delicious breakfast with cereal, fresh fruit, croissants, toast and jam. All very substantial.
There is a beach at Branscombe …half a mile away and a beautiful coastal walk from the church in the village.
We also liked looking at the forge where the blacksmith makes lots of items.
We did a last minute short break as the weather was excellent, the roads to Branscombe are a challenge and buses and tractors add a lot of excitement. The Masons was superb the rooms are really well decorated and in excellent condition and very clean. The food was also superb we had the Sunday roast beef which packs the place out even in the evening. All the staff were very helpful and genuinely friendly.
Well appointed rooms, warm, cosy, old world charm and elegance with mod cons. The staff were warm and friendly, without the over familiarity. Great location to use as base to explore the surrounding area. Only a 10min (half a mile) to the local beach. Branscombe is a pretty village. Great fish and chips at Masons. Piping hot food. Local lager, Korav, nice tipple.
The rooms are well decorated in a traditional style but with all the modern facilities you expect from a hotel room, great shower and bed! Staff are lovely always with a smile even when under pressure. The location is great really picturesque village and 10’ walk from branscombe beach. Roads are narrow so driving there is an adventure.
Breakfast was very nice. They did have a hiccup with our order, and we had a long wait for our food. However, they couldn’t apologise enough and extended our check out time, so we didn’t have to worry about rushing. A minor blip in what was a lovely stay in a awesome hotel in a great location.
Beautiful location there is not a great deal in branscombe but that is what we were after. An excellent place to unwind. Very friendly owners who very kindly gave us an upgrade. I love the style and setting of the property. The room was so charming and had the most amazing bed.
We loved our stay at The Mason Arms the staff were all very friendly, the rooms were lovely and comfy, the evening meal and breakfast were great and all a short walk from Branscombe beach. The guest gardens were a great added bonus. Despite the minor negatives we will be back!
Food was excellent and menu varied, breakfast choice was large and freshly cooked to order, staff friendly and welcoming, good reasonably priced wine list.
The entire hotel was spotless and the room lovely. An excellent shower and lovely fluffy towels.
Good food and prompt service. Room well appointed and coffee machine and fresh milk appreciated. The many steps to the cottages were well signed. WiFi was good enough for Zoom meetings. Lovely village with easy walking to Branscombe beach.
The location - Branscombe - has been our favorite place to visit for over 25 years, and Smugglers Close was the icing on the cake with it far more than we expected as we had not stayed there previously.
Just generally a great stay. Beautiful building, great staff, lovely food. We walked from here to Beer and back....to a well earned (and fabulous) dinner in the restaurant.
