Gifu is a city that's nestled in the valleys of surrounding mountains. It gets very cold and windy in the winter and excrutiatingly hot in the summer. There are many hiking trails accessible from this city.
Make sure to plan your trip to hit the right temperatures. You can use this place as a base to drive out to nearby locations such as Monet's pond, Seki city or Nagoya city. It is also about 2 hours drive from Lake Biwa if you use the toll roads.
Public transport might not be that convenient, recommended to rent a car for this place.

Gifu now is a rather quiet city as most of the Japanese have moved out to bigger cities like Nagoya and Tokyo. The shopping walk at Yanagase had only a few shops open for business. The plus factor is that there is a Takashimaya shopping building where you can do some proper shopping there, but the things are on the pricey side.
However on the JR station side , there are alot of eateries and supermarkets where you can eat and buy foodstuff . Prices are much cheaper there for sashimi if you are into it.
Gifu is only good for the river commorant fishing town , so you have to travel outskirts to Nagano river to enjoy nature and river walk. The castle is only an external shell of a modernised interior , not much to see like the other castles in japan.

I went to Gujo Hachiman and the place is one of the most beautiful I've seen in Japan. I joined Gujo Odori, which is all night dancing held from August 13-15 this year, and it was a magical experience. The dancing started at around 7pm and didn't stop until 5am.
Qell where do I start, everything was PERFECT, I have been 6 weeks on the road in japan, hotels, etc, driving a rental car , and staying at lots of places , this is the best, the beautiful lady who runs this bnb is just a gem, I wish I could put her in my suitcase and take her home!!!😀😀😀, place was lovely, air con food, bathroom good, bedding perfect, location awesome, nice and quiet, but, this lady I have to say was one of the most beautiful human beings I've met...Stay here you won't be disappointed at all...
I don't remember there being breakfast, but there was coffee and tea and the coffee was extremely good. You can make espresso for yourself at any time of day. There are also amenities you can borrow, such as a selection of soaps, hair products, hair dryer, iron, etc. My room had both a fridge and a microwave. which I appreciated. The hotel was tucked off the main street, but was close to many restaurants and bars, though the location was not noisy at all. The styling of the hotel is very cute.
The onsen facilities are wonderful! The variety and quality of food at breakfast is excellent! Wonderful amenities such as free use of the washing machine, free ice cream bars, probiotic drinks, etc. It’s a very clean, comfortable and customer oriented hotel. I initially found the pillow for my bed uncomfortable. I asked the staff at the front desk if they had a different pillow and they kindly lent me something better for me, which was very helpful!
The hosts are incredibly nice and helpful. We were going on a rafting trip on our check-out date and they woke up at 5 am to drive us to the station so we can make it on time for the rafting trip. The place was very clean, and it exceeded our expectations 😍. We wanted to stay longer there because of how nice the hosts were and how great the place was. It was definitely a better choice than a hotel I think 😍!
Oyasan is yashashi... Very kind and friendly. The room is so clean. Good facilities. In the morning I can work and enjoy the sunshine from the verandah, tanoshiiikatta...
Mama Oyasan gave me chance to try kimono and took pictures for me, also she gave me flower brooch, kawaiii... It's recommended place to stay in Gifu. 楽し。。。ありがとうございます😊😊😊
The owner met me and helped me open the lockbox to get the key out.
Room was massive. Ample space to put out my luggage and relax.
Price was extremely affordable for its size! Would be great for a longer stay if you were planning to be around the Nagoya-Gifu area.
I really enjoyed my stay at SUAI. The owner, Hiro, picked me up from and dropped me off at Gifu Station. The facilities were immaculate and very comfortable. And the dog, Lily, was very cute and playful. Highly recommended!
Staffs were friendly and accommodating. Location, very close to Gifu Station and convenience store. Room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was great! They also provide free welcome drinks from 14:00 to 24:00.
This is a great spot! the location is great for exploring Gifu and the staff is phenomenal. the value was great. I highly recommend!!! We ran Gifu Half Marathon and it was great spot for that!
The view is absolutely magnificent. We had a clear view of both the Gifu castle as well as the Nagara river. We spent majority of our time sitting in front of our window and enjoying the
view.
Location is good. Walkable to Meitetsu -Gifu Station direct train to Nagoya Airport, Gifu JR and bus terminal. Lots of eateries and supermarket. Good Japanese breakfast.
