Best Western Grants Inn, hotel in Grants

The Best Western Grants Inn is conveniently located off Interstate 40. This Grants, NM hotel is near Mount Taylor and the Ice Cave and Bandera Volcano, called "The Land of Fire and Ice".

Robert has been THE friendliest employee I have ever met. Not only does he exude the best personality, but he should be the gold standard for customer service. From check in to check out, Robert has made our stay well worth the price we paid and gave us peace of mind. Cannot thank him enough for his kindness and service. Personally, I felt like the location was great. Small, but charming town of grants right off the interstate and close to a Walmart that has just about anything you need along with some basic fast food places if needed. Perfect for a quick trip like ours. Rooms are updated, spacious, and comfortable as well. I think anyone dreads having to sleep away from your own bed, but best western has truly made it possible to recharge and relax a bit. We will be choosing BW going forward when needing to book a hotel.

Southwest Motel, hotel in Grants

Southwest Motel is a 4-star property located in Grants. The motel also provides free WiFi and free private parking. At the motel, each room is equipped with a desk.

I have been to 127 countries and 48 states over the last 54 years of my 72-year-old life, spending thousands of nights at various types of lodging and I have never experienced the raw aggression combined with unexplainable irrationality that came anywhere near what occurred at the Southwest Motel. There are many other budget accommodations in Grants, and you should avoid this motel and its owner. DO NOT GO HERE. The check-out time was 10 am and the problem revolved around the clock on his microwave being inaccurate, showing 9 am when it was actually 10 am. Also, my phone failed to update when I crossed into New Mexico from Arizona so it also displayed 9 am. Nevertheless, I was almost ready to go when he started to bang loudly at my door at 10 am. I opened the door and he began an unending very loud tirade that was extremely aggressive and he got into my personal space. He was very aggressive and was very close to me at times during his tirade. Although he had not touched me, I had to explain to him that unwanted touching is an assault and that under no circumstance should he touch me. I explained to him what had happened in relation to the confusion over the time and asked him politely for another 10-15 minutes to pack. His solution was that I should finish packing in the parking lot which was unsatisfactory since that would result in my property being soiled and possibly damaged. He continued his tirade by claiming that people were waiting for this room, and I must immediately vacate the room and place my property on the parking lot. I pointed out that there were only a couple of cars in the parking lot and that he must have at least two dozen available rooms (I took a photo that shows that the parking lot was almost completely empty). At that point he completely went off the rails and tore the bedding from the bed and hurled it across the room to the floor to demonstrate his anger and, in my opinion, demonstrate that he was at the point of physical

I like the location and cleanliness of the room and hotel.

I like the location and cleanliness of the room and hotel. The room and bathroom we had was large enough to be able to put our things down and not trip over them. I liked the cameras in the parking lot and being able to park right outside the room as we had a car with gifts and luggage in it. The breakfast was a little better than the usual hotel breakfast in this price range. Would have liked an elevator if we stayed upstairs

THE BAD: Grants is a near ghost town and looks it.

THE BAD: Grants is a near ghost town and looks it. The current population is about 9000. Its economy was based on uranium mining, which is currently bust. My travel companion was shocked when she saw it. There are many boarded up and abandoned businesses. I grew up in Grants so it makes me sad to see it this way, having lived there in economically better days. But that is the way of mining towns, boom and bust. (I hope uranium mining will come back as I am a believer in nuclear power for energy.) That being said, Grants has some nice new parks in the downtown section. I'll also recommend a very decent restaurant, La Ventana for good food and drinks. I'm sure there are others which I'm not personally familiar with. THE GOOD: Grants is a terrific base for exploring all around the area in at least a 50 mile radius. There is the very interesting Mining Museum right in town. There is El Morro National Historic Monument (Inscription Rock) to the southwest. There is Chaco Canyon National Monument (ancient Indian ruins) to the north. There is Mt Taylor to the east for coolness in the summer and a beautiful hike to the summit. There is El Malpais National Monument to the south with La Ventana natural arch and the El Malpais visitor center. There are Native American communities all round, Acoma and Laguna pueblos to the east and the great Navaho reservation to the west. And the country all around is beautiful (but then I grew up there). There are enough wonderful things in the area to keep you busy for days, if you wish.

Hot tub was great. Pet area was very lacking!

Hot tub was great. Pet area was very lacking! Toilet was too low to the floor. Breakfast with omelettes, biscuits and gravy would be super! Waffles were good! Complimentary bottled water at registration would be good! Warm cookies too!

Grants is a small town that old Rt 66 goes through as it parallels I-40. We do bits of old Rt 66 when able. Nice drive through town with a neon Rt 66 drive thru sign. Native designs and large Dream Catchers along Rt 66. Mining Museum (lots of uranium in the area) and a small Rt 66 museum none of which were open probably due to COVID. Most of fast food was on west side of town. El Malpais National Monument Visitor Center( which was completely open) is on the east side of town just south of I-40.

We didn't really explore as we were just staying the night. The area where we were was clean and there was a nice clean Subway across the street with a great sandwich maker! No complaints of the area. Very pretty area! Easy on and off of the freeway.

The Sands Motel is a Classic Mom and Pop motel. The location is great. I do not know a lot about Grants NM, but I can tell you your lodging choices are limited. The best thing about this property is that "La Ventana " steak house is right down the street, Great Place for STEAK !

No breakfast. Small bed was too small way old stiff mattress was from the 60s. One towel with a hole in it. Every piece of furniture was damaged or missing finish. Overpriced for an old hotel. Heater ran all night with no thermostat went from stuffy hot to nothing.

The bathroom was nicely updated. Our breakfast was the favorite of 3 hotels we stayed at in NM and AZ- kids loved the automatic pancake maker and the adults loved the breakfast tamales.
