If you want to visit the Wachau valley this is the place to stay. Tastefully renovated property with modern features while still maintaining originality. Incredible views. The staff is very helpful and accommodating. Nice buffet breakfast with a wide selection of food choices. The main restaurant is good as well for dinner. There is an outside pool, which was too cold for me, and an indoor pool for those wanting warmer water. One of the most attractive indoor pool areas you will find. A terrific winery open for tastings was within walking distance. The area around the hotel is charming.

It's an old monastery that is the hallmark of the village.
It's an old monastery that is the hallmark of the village. The village is about one millenium years and has a fortress ruin overlooking it all. The forests and mountainous hills all around is a magic place for hikes and discovering amazing castles and churches.

Durnstein is a strange village; the old centre is attractive and interesting, but you get a feeling that it's a ghost town. It seems to exist for day trippers, and it doesn't have a life of its own. The only shops are tourist shops - no pharmacies, no grocery shops, no stationeries selling newspapers and magazines.... Some eateries close by 6pm and after that, it really is a ghost town.

Unfortunately there were some problems... .
The WiFi inside the room did not work. I have asked twice and it was fixed but for just a few hours... so I had to use my data plan on my phone.
Bed was very uncomfortable. It was a double bad but... with some board in the middle, with one side of bed being higher than the other part and squicking on every move in the bed.
The only way I could shower was if I was holding the shower had in my hand..... which made it impossible to wash properly my heir and.... water was splushing from defecting shower head.
Breakfast was great.... people were very nice but... I would not stay in this hotel again.

I stayed here with my wife, two young daughters, and my in-laws. We stayed for 3 nights and had a wonderful experience. Everyone was so helpful and service oriented. The pool was perfect for us to relax in. The food is excellent at the restaurant and the views along the Danube are gorgeous.

Beautiful picturesque town in the Wachau valley.
Beautiful picturesque town in the Wachau valley. Lots of wineries nearby and some cute restaurants in the town itself. Very walkable. Touristy by day with people coming from Vienna but insanely quiet by night. We felt like we had the whole town to ourselves!
We loved the breakfast buffet every morning, small but thoughtfully serviced. The facilities were old (as expected - it's hundreds of years old!), but nicely decorated with upgraded bathrooms. Outside garden area was lovely, with tables, chairs, umbrellas - and lots of birds! Amazing view of the church from the gardens, easy to get to the walking path up to the old Durnstein castle, and many great eating & drinking places, as well as shops!
The location is exceptionally picturesque comprising endlessly terraced grape vines with the mighty Danube River in the foreground and deep green pine forested hills behind. The food in the region (Lower Austria) was sensational, the hosts were exceedingly friendly and welcoming, and the accommodation (fully contained apartment) was modern and immaculate. We definitely intend to return in the future.
The hotel is a historical building that used to be serve as an Abby. It is such a beautiful building decorated with historical artifacts. The gardens and the restaurant although understated, are beautiful with view of the Danube river and vineyards all around. We hired bikes from the hotel and there are so many bike routes to take to go to nearby villages. or simple ride by the river.
The location, the location and once more the location, it is perfect. Just about 150 m from the Hotel Schloss Dürnstein and as close to the Donau as possible and parking on site. What else could you ask? Of course, Donau Radweg. But at the Gästehouse Stöger the cycle road is just outside the door. And you have a garage for the bikes. Breakfast is also very good.
Room was large and confortable, very new, well furnished and well equipped. The b&b has a terrace with a beautiful view on the old castle. Durnstein is a charme and all attractions are at walking distance. Service is very kind and helpful. Last but not least, breakfast was great, abundant with high quality ingredients. Would definitely come pack.
Gästezimmer Rolea was a great place to stay with a very welcoming family, who went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable. The house is in a great location on the edge of Durnstein and very walkable to the attractions in town. Breakfast was extensive (particularly for a smaller B&B), and the place is very dog friendly.
The room was very modern and and clean. The host was very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was very good and plentyful. From the property one can see the Dürnstein Ruin and there is a parking space with a gate if needed. There is also a terrace to sit outside and an aircondition inside the room with windows with blinds.
A beautiful old hotel with a lovely staff, located in a beautiful town.
We had a room with amazing view of the river and the inner court. The hotel have a fantastic restaurant with a terrace over the river, great food and great service. Very friendly for children.
They will to arrange every ask of us.
Location is perfect in the center of Dürnstein, which is also a great starting point for a trip around Wachau. Parking place was provided at the gates to the town - this is just a couple of minutes away from the pension. Beds were comfortable, room was clean. Hosts were firendly and easy to reach.
Great location in the centre of Dürnstein. appreciated the information and call in advance of the stay. house had all the facilities we needed. really enjoyed the outdoors terrace. the place was really clean and saw the cleaner who was helpful.
Absolutely stunning apartments, very spacious, neat and cozy. Just next to the wine-yards. We even had a walk-in wine cellar in the apartment.
The apartments are in good proximity to both Durnstein and Krems
clean, easy parking, and appreciated how the staff took great efforts to book us a nice table for dinner by the waterfront as guests staying in the hotel, without even having to ask. delicious dinner
The hotel was quaint and filled with antiques. The rooms were clean and a good size. The pool was a real treat! It was hot and the room had a fan which was a bonus. The breakfast buffet was great!
Very comfortable and big room
- delicious breakfast
- swimming pool and sauna free of charge
- river view from the balcony
- walk distance from Dürnstein Old town
Wonderful breakfast, great location, 5 min walk downhill from Durnstein‘s main road. The room and en-suite bathroom was clean, there was a locked bike room.
The hotel is located at one end of the small historic village and looked to be a building with a proud history itself. The welcome drink was a nice touch.
