A Gem of Fashion
As the world’s largest diamond-cutting city, Antwerp (Anvers in French) is naturally affluent. It comes as no surprise then that fashion is also of utmost importance, so the shopping here is excellent. It may not be the cheapest place, but the quality certainly matches the price.
Another big business in Antwerp is the port, one of Europe’s largest. Take a cruise around to admire its scale. The Scheldt River leads from the port into the city, and on its banks are a handful of interesting museums and Het Steen, a medieval castle built to protect the city against Viking invasions.
A few streets back is the Grote Markt, a beautiful square flanked by the grand town hall and 16th-century guildhouses – a typically Belgian scene. Behind this is UNESCO World Heritage-listed Antwerp Cathedral, whose asymmetrical towers look down over Groenplaats, a tranquil square filled with pavement cafes. Belgian beer is legendary and the local brew is De Koninck, which packs quite a punch.
In the south of the city is the most unusual sight – Wilrijk’s huge Jain Temple, one of the largest outside India. A little further east is Antwerp Airport, efficiently connected by public transport to the Antwerp hotels, guesthouses and apartments that are available on Booking.com.

Busy, bustling place with lots to see and do. Trendy docklands, the Old Town with its square and Cathedral. The Het Stein castle, a remnant of medieval times, art galleries for art buffs, a museum dedicated to the diamond trade, fashion museum. Lots of places to eat to suit all pockets and more varieties of beer than you can imagine! The main train station is spectacular and the only triple decker station I have ever seen. Antwerp has lots to offer. Museums, interesting neighborhoods, pedestrian streets, and a huge number of restaurants/bars/cafes. Take the walking/cycling tunnel under the river - great experience and a lovely walk along the left bank. If you are in Antwerp on Saturday or Sunday, I highly recommend the Handelsbeurs - stunning architecture and interesting history.

If you're flying into Antwerp, I highly recommend paying a visit to a restaurant located approximately a 15-minute walk from the airport called "Jardin Public". From there, you can catch a tram to the Central Station. In my opinion, the highlights of the trip were definitely the Central Station and the Central Square. Getting around Antwerp is fairly easy, but you also have the option to rent bicycles or use electric scooters. For dinner, we opted for The Eleventh Commandment / Elfde Gebod and were impressed by the delicious food and speedy service. I would have loved to extend my stay if possible; perhaps a minimum of a 3-day trip would be ideal. On the return journey to the airport, I opted to take an Uber for convenience.

The breakfast offered several options—cereal, eggs, fruit, etc.; I liked that it wasn't excessive, as breakfast buffets in large hotels can be. I was staying with my adult son, and the room was comfortable, yet small, with twin beds and an open hanging rack for clothes (no closet). I'd book at the B&B Hotel again for a night or two; for a longer stay, I'd probably opt for a larger hotel with more amenities.
