Most locals don’t speak English, making communication challenging. The city still carries a noticeable sense of its communist past, and overall, it falls significantly below typical EU standards in terms of infrastructure and development. Some amazing historical monuments from various eras including the royal palace and an impressive domed cathedral. Lots of choice for eating out and good transport system linking you to trains and buses as well as the airport. Easy to get around the city on trams. Huge shopping mall in Serdica. Nice scenery with the mountains in the background. Main train station will connect you to pretty much any other part of Bulgaria. Train fares are low cost and trains are mainly basic but comfortable. You can book day trips from Sofia to places such as the Rila Monastery.

One of the most friendly European countries. From a taxi driver to a elite person of the community, everybody will extend their help if you are in confusion. Do not book here, you’re better off sleeping in a dumpster than this pile of trash.
