Howard Johnson Paragon Hotel Beijing Central, hotel in Beijing

The Howard Johnson Paragon Hotel Beijing is located in Beijing's East Chang'an Avenue, opposite and a 5-minute walk from Beijing Railway Station (also the subway station).

Good location, just above the Beijing Railway Station. Easy to take cab to places of interest. Good breakfast spread every morning. We booked a family suite and received a fruit platter on the day we checked in. We also could consume all drinks in the fridge at no charges and the drinks were refilled every day. Very comfortable bed and pillows. The family suite is big and includes a small living area where we could sit and eat take-outs at the end of the day.

FAQs about hotels in Beijing

From Chinese Dynasties to Cultural Dynamics

A world-renowned gem, sprawling Beijing has magnificent monuments and peaceful parks. At its heart is the world’s largest square, Tiananmen, surrounded by important museums and the amazing Forbidden City. This 15th-century, walled complex of palaces neighbors Jingshan Park and Beihai Park with its imperial garden.

Across from Tiananmen Square is the ultra-modern National Center for Perfoming Arts, a beacon of the city’s culture so impressively displayed at the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the Bird’s Nest Stadium.

To its east is the UNESCO World Heritage listed Summer Palace, a lakeside retreat of emperors, while also UNESCO listed is the grand Temple of Heaven in Chongwen district, where remnants of Ming dynasty city walls are visible. Nearby are several hutongs, narrow alleys with traditional architecture, that contrast with wider, modern roads like Beijing Financial Street, the city's business area.

The most popular Beijing shopping street is Wangfujing, and other must-see sights include the giant pandas at Beijing Zoo and the Great Wall of China, an easy day trip from Beijing.

As you would expect from the capital of the world’s most populous country, there are a good number of 5-star hotels in Beijing on Booking.com, mainly in the Dongcheng and Chaoyang districts. There are also several hotels near Beijing Capital Airport in the northeast.

Amazing place - so much to see and do.

Amazing place - so much to see and do. Modern city with clean air - most cars are electric but lots on congestion as you would expect. Subway very modern and much much quicker than Road. Subway network is extensive- single journeys approx 3 yuan / 30 pence. Alipay recommended. Some subway trains have ‘cool’ compartments at the front and ‘cold’ at the rear, which is nice. You can visit Tiananmen Square and the forbidden city in half a day - be prepared for lots of walking. The temple of heaven is fascinating, where the emporers worshipped and there is a market across the road with food and drink ground floor and traditional haggling for clothes etc.. on the other floors, although the markets appear ‘modernised’ to years ago. The great wall is a definite must do bucket list and you will get your weeks steps in one day. We got the ski lift up from the car park and toboggan down which is a novelty. Worth having a driver for flexibility. Great food and atmosphere in traditional Hutong area - recommend early evening - so much choice and all very decent and reasonable. Wan fu jing is the modern ‘gentrified’ area- try the hanging roast duck in quan Jude, which is a chain and very popular. There is a small Japenese strip just of the main wan fu jing strip, which has nice bars and restaurants. Highly recommended Beijing - you will not stop and definitely not be bored.

A special city to do so much in a short space of time; visit the Great Wall (Muitang), the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, discover delicious food etc etc. The city is very easy and cheap to get around via metro and DiDi (Uber). I found the locals very friendly and funny/ a good sense of humour. It’s very serene at the parks at night, and unlike much of Europeans too destinations is still authentic and very affordable.

Interesting. Basically cash only for Weterners.

Interesting. Basically cash only for Weterners. Few places take VISA, Mastercard. Attractions are a pain to get into to, daily allocation of tickets olnie, first come first servied and booked for 5 days ahead. Very inexpensive food, drink, metro. Decent sidewalks, road layout, crossings etc. Safe. Lots of Police presence. Not the best place I have been, not the worst place I have been. Been once, no need to go again. Worth going to and experience but not a return-to destination. Airport is a drag and security is heavy handed - Allow plenty, plenty, of time.

It's a fantastic city with wide and clean roads/streets. Communication is very easy, there are 16 subway lines connecting the city. We found a halal restaurant near Beijing Railway Station. Besides, ride hailing and taxi services are very convenient.
