Enjoyed the breakfast and that it was made fresh. The pool area and the entire property were excellent. Access to beach was short walk but the area was beautiful and well maintained trail.

Beautiful views. Spacious rooms and bed. Very homey and quiet atmosphere (except for bird song!). Proprietor was very friendly and welcoming and the food (both dinner and breakfast) were exceptional! A great break from the hustle and bustle!

Breakfast was wonderful and each of the staff was amazing. They gave us great tips on day activities and where to eat. It was quiet and beautiful there. I would love to stay again. Very private and could not beat the views of nature and the sunset.

This place is paradise. We saw more animals here than anywhere else so far in Costa Rica. Even though it is just off the main highway, it is the jungle. The property is large, and full of trees. A troupe of monkeys comes to visit almost everyday. There are agouti, coati, iguana, toucans, hummingbirds, and at night, not far away, coyotes. There is an absolute symphony of nature sounds. The owner, Bettina, and her daughters, are lovely. The breakfast is great - fresh fruit, fresh buns, eggs, cereal, coffee. It kept us going all day. The hotel is ideally situated for visiting the Nauyaca Waterfalls, Marino Ballena National Park and the Uvita beach, Hacienda Baru nature trails, the Alturas Wildlife Sancturary, and more. There is a lovely swimming pool. We would do an excursion in the morning, and hang out by the pool in the afternoon. We were here for six nights, and had a fantastic time. Would definitely visit again.

Everything was amazing ! :) thanks for your hospitality, we felt like family. The white water rafting was really fun and safe. The night walk was stunning with a great guide. The activites are relatively cheap and great. We highly recommend the lodge. We also saw a caoti and tucans at the lodge!
Beautiful place, friendly people, relaxed atmosphere. The epitome of Pura Vida.
There are three licensed restaurants worth visiting, Akachete, La Esquinita and Supper Club. All are open for dinner, La Esquinita also breakfast and lunch and Akachete for lunch.
There is Matapalo main centre with police, church, school and shops, also more eateries for lunches and snacks. And Playa Matapalo 15 minutes down the road, with one hotel (Coco Beach) and many B&B's, Airbnb and lodges close to the highly rated beach. Matapalo beach apartments (Jungle House) has a pool as well.
Walks along the beach can go on the ever and the sunsets are magnificent. You can walk to Dominical along the beach, there are 4 rivers to cross which is very easy at low tide and it takes about 3 or 4 hours. The flora and fauna views are incredible and it's best in the early morning. You can catch the bus or take a taxi back to Matapalo.
Also, take a walk to the small waterfall in the hills, it's about 30 minutes from La Esquinita restaurant. And horse riding on the beach in the afternoon.

Great location for exploring the area from Manuel Antonio...
Great location for exploring the area from Manuel Antonio down to Uvita and up into the mountains. There were a number of small restaurants to eat at even though we only ate at one. The beach was nice and quiet with lots of shade trees.

It’s a great place if you want a quiet peaceful experience, away from crowds and along with the nature. There are plenty physical activities on the beach—walking, biking, horse riding.Strong current and big waves are making it difficult and safe to swim, but you can wade in or drive to safer beaches. This beach provides you with a privacy and lots of room to explore.
There is a little restaurant La Kashette a couple minutes from the beach and a small store.

Matapalo is amazing! The beaches are quiet and beautiful!
Matapalo is amazing! The beaches are quiet and beautiful! There is a lot to do around the area yet it is far away from all of the very touristy parts of Costa Rica. Matapalo is safe and you can get around just fine by foot. Sunsets on Playa Matapalo are romantic and the sand is powdery and white. A great beach to swim and surf.

This is a very quiet and small beach community.
This is a very quiet and small beach community. The beach is long and secluded with few visitors. Perfect for those who want a natural setting and privacy. There are only a couple restaurants and lodging facilities...so this is the place for those who want to be outside of the busy tourist destinations and want to enjoy the natural beauty of Costa Rica.

Matapalo is all about the beach!
Matapalo is all about the beach! The ocean was perfect with a gentle dark brown sand. The hotel is good - I liked the room, little garden and delicious food. Anja is very friendly and helpful host. Thank you so much! The only disadvantage is extremely bad WiFi in the room and no WIFi in the restaurant. There is another restaurant close by with very good WiFi and less expensive but worse food.
The ‘included breakfast’ didn’t exist. The washing machine didn’t exist. When we queried this after an hour of negotiation between the host via a third party over the phone we were offered the use of the twin tub. We chose not to as by then we were steaming and desperate to explore. There was no hot tub (we weren’t planning to use it but it was on the details). It took us an hour to find the place because although we asked several locals they had never heard if it. Turned out it was called Jungle House not Matapalo beach apartments.
The location of the property is fantastic: literally two steps away from the beautiful beach of Matapalo.
The pool is very nice too, and very well equipped with showers and sun beds.
The staff is very nice and took good care of us. Breakfast was simple but good. We mainly had pancakes and eggs.
From the hotel you can easily spot animals like monkeys, iguanas, lizards, crabs etc.
Juan Carlos (the owner) takes care of the hotel religiously. Everything is very cleaned and groomed.
We had a great stay!
This is a nice hotel away from the crowds in an area that is still not touristic. Only 200 meters away from a fantastic almost completely empty beautiful beach. The rooms are large and everything works the way it should, good shower, airco, fridge, etc. Literally next door there is a simple looking but really good restaurant with great fresh food! two other restaurants close by which we did not visit. also a supermarket close by.
WOW - our stay in Matapalo was incredible. We saw more animals here than anywhere else on the entirety of our trip through Costa Rica. The room was excellent and comfortable, the beach is gorgeous and the location is wonderfully quiet but close to dominical. Breakfast was delicious and generous and Lettika helped us arrange to go horseback riding which was another highlight.
Fantastic setting in a very quiet area. Just countryside and the fabulous beach just a short walk from the hotel. Our room had a huge bed and exceptionally clean room. The bathroom shower was huge and very nicely decorated. Also there is compete quiet at night for sleeping.
The owner David and his staff were very helpful and made us feel right at home.
We loved the brand new hotel, closeness to the beach, price/value, breakfast and the hosts Philip and Kamila. Everything worked great. They recently opened the hotel. We look forward to going again. The beach is amazing as it is virgin. The hosts also gave us places to go nearby and helped us get situated in the surf with tides and peak locations.
Amazing bed and breakfast just few meters away from the wonderful Matapalo beach (especially at sunset, go there absolutely!!!). The owner Philippe is very friendly and loves Costa Rica. We enjoyed talking with him by the side of the nice pool. Room was super new and very comfortable. We definitely recommend Can Vamos and Casa Aba in Matapalo.
David is a heartfelt host. Runs a brilliant house, nicest in Matapalo, the village being a calm place. His real tropical garden hosts a brilliant fauna. Room, bed, cleanliness spotless. Beach and shop both 5 mins on foot, Coco is approx the last house behind the oceanfront trees. Great breakfast. Safe parking. Good advices as per excursions.
Facilities are excellent and well maintained. Staff, lead by Lettika, the owner, is friendly and always helpful. No noise other than that of birds, frogs and insects. Close ( 200 - 250 meter) to a nice and quiet beach. We could watch sloths, monkeys and some birds next to the hotel. Wifi is fast and reliable.
The owners were so lovely, giving us great recommendations and tips for where to go and what to do. Very helpful overall to make our stay comfortable. Great breakfast and delicious waffles. It's a new hotel, nicely designed, and you can tell they take extra care to start things right.
This was a beautiful hotel and we had a wonderful time here. David, the owner, was so helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. The breakfast was cooked to order. It’s a very short walk to the beach, which we had almost to ourselves. The garden and pool were very nice too.
Wonderful boutique 7 room hotel at edge of jungle a d 10 min walk to beach. Breakfast served to order. Monkeys and sloth on property. Manicured garden. Nice pool ares. Had to drive 10 min to Domincal for good restautants.
It was better than in pictures, best hotel to experience the rain forest, views and animals were amazing. Such a great experience. The host, Filip, couldn’t be better, he cooked an amazing dinner which we enjoyed so much.
Casa Aba Matapalo is a realy nice place to stay for few days. It's located in beautiful garden with monkeys jumping above your head and a sloth hidden in a palm tree. The beach os just few steps away.
Next to the most beautiful beach in Costa Rica! Very pristine, ideal for long walks. We enjoyed the swimming pool in the evening. We got a room with an outside kitchen with a very comfortable bed.
The facility itself is fine. The gardens are lovely and the pool was okay (very shallow). The village and beach of Matapalo is beautiful, pristine, and full of wildlife!
