Mindo has a lot of wonderful nature options. Feeding hummingbirds, the BEST butterfly gardens we have ever visited and we have been to many & really good bird watching - we used Sandra & Romelly at Bird Paradaisio (sp) & had alot of fun & Romelly drove us back safely to Quito but took us on an extra bird sighting trip on the way that was super - wonderful too! The trails to the waterfalls was a lot of fun & the falls are worth the trek although these out of shape older folks didn't make it to them all. The chocolate tour at Yumbos led by Amir was wonderful! We enjoyed both the tarabita & telerifico rides although the last was a bit scary, terrific views! Prices for everything was very reasonable, food may be a bit higher than rest of Ecuador but not too bad. Limited options though as most menus looked almost the same. One place we would definitely come back to. Only the food options were a little lacking. Everything else was fun & it was nice to be out of big cities.

Mindo has so many things to do.
Mindo has so many things to do. We took a ride on the cable car (Tabita) and then hiked to see the 5 waterfalls. We toured a butterfly house and took a coffee tour. The town is small so walking was the way to explore. We only needed a taxi to get to the hiking. Definitely take a truck taxi since the roads are rough and windy to get to the top. Our driver gave us his phone number to call him when were finished hiking. There are so many different restaurants to choose from and very good prices. We enjoyed our two night stay at the El Descanso where we saw so many tropical birds (especially hummingbirds) right off the back patio.

Mindo is a lovely little town, famous for chocolate, butterflies and waterfalls! Although there’s a lot of activities, you can get through most of them in 2 days, which makes it a great weekend travel destination.
Temperatures are usually mild due to it being in the clouds.

I've visited here twice, once in 2001 and the second time in 2023. I would say it has actually improved quite a lot in that time; the road into town is better, and the facilities in the area are much better. There are some much better restaurants and small cafes, and more "fun" activities available than there used to be. At the same time, the development hasn't been allowed to run rampant, so it still has the feel of a small town in the subtropics.
We had one of the suites that overlooked the river and it was absolutely magical. The room had everything you could want and all you could hear was the sound of the water. The breakfast was the best we had anywhere in Ecuador, very filling, different everyday and absolutely delicious. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful especially Enid and Xavier. There are lots of activities they can attange and both the birdwatching with Peter and the visit to the butterfly park nearby (25 min enjoyable walk) were well worth doing.
The manager of the hotel was extremely helpful. She organized taxis and gave information on local places to go. If we were on an early morning trip, she organized breakfast for us when we returned (after the breakfast hours had finished). The breakfast was very substantial - fruits, fresh juice, choice of eggs, and some type of carbohydrate. The hotel we in a nice quiet area about 10 mins walk from town and close to the river.
This place feels like home, Mateo is like a friend who you can ask for anything, always wants a chat and will help you with anything. The place is so peaceful, and clean. The kitchen is nice, the breakfast is also good. We will always come back here if we come to Mindo. You can organise any trips here, mateo is so knowledgable about everything you need!
This house was perfect and exceptionally beautiful. it had everything we needed plus more.
We extended our stay here in Mindo. The location was perfect to do and see everything.
The beds were comfy and the kitchen had everything we needed. The shower was nice and hot also.
The staff were very kind and helpful with everything we needed.
The owner was really nice, he helped us a lot (called taxis) and cooked a delicious breakfast and afternoon tea. We could also use the kitchen.
The house is beautiful, sorrounded by nature, you can always hear birds and the river.
It is really close to the Teleferico Minjoy if you want to take it to go to Cascadas Mindo.
The property was on a beautiful piece of land with wildlife to hear and observe! We wish we would have stayed longer and just enjoyed the property and relaxing there. There was so much to do and see in Mindo that we wish we had more time there! The staff was amazing and very helpful recommending places to eat and visit!
The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The location is amazing with lots of birds, butterflies and the sounds of the rainforest all around you. It is close to the main attractions of Mindo and not far from the center of the town either, where you will find all of the restaurants and tourist information.
The place is big and beautiful. Surrounded by nature. It is located in a peaceful area in Mindo. Perfect for relax and disconnect form everything, but at the same time near enough to Mindo downtown.
The hosts where friendly and quick to respond to any question or need.
The laundry room was a big plus.
The food was fantastic. You can get a traditional Ecuadorian breakfast with fresh juice. The hotel was set in the cloud forest with beautiful views of the mountains. We all went to the spa for various treatments and sat by the pool. All excursions are easy to get to by taxi.
Very very friendly people, I had a nice stay and felt safe and comfortable.
It was just hard to find. There is no sign on the house and the people around couldn't help me find it. Maybe it would be helpful if it is more present next to the other hotels and hostels.
We stayed in a charming rustic cabin in a lovely setting on a peaceful creek, surrounded by sights and sounds of nature. Reminded me of being at summer camp. Within comfortable walking distance of quaint “downtown” Mindo.
Staff of the guesthouse did the very best so we felt very welcomed. Good location in Mindo, near the river. Breakfast in outdoors terrace in the garden is wonderful. Experience to see hummingbirds was unbelievable!
La Chonta is beautifully situated, at a 40-minute walk from Mindo. Andres, the host, is very hospitable and helpful. And a morning tea with fresh lemongrass made my day!
