Colorful Capital of Sun and Shopping
The Gran Canaria capital, Las Palmas, has everything that the Canaries stand for: year-round sun, fantastic beaches and great nightlife. However, the largest city of this volcanic island group is more than just a beach resort: its mix of traditional and modern makes it stand out from the crowd.
Colorful Colonial façades line Calle Triana, a top shopping street, while the Las Arenas shopping complex outside the city is much more contemporary in design. The El Muelle shopping center is near Parque Santa Catalina and the surrounding restaurants, bars and clubs are focal points of Las Palmas nightlife, together with the historic Vegueta district.
Vegueta is also home to Santa Ana cathedral, best viewed from the palm-lined square which houses the Canary Island Museum. Around the corner is the Casa Museo de Colón, where Columbus stayed en route to America. No doubt he sailed from huge Puerto de la Luz whose numerous vessels are guarded by a lighthouse and stone castle.
On the opposite side of the promontory is long Las Canteras beach, lined by a promenade providing great mountain views in both directions. The 5-star hotels by the beach are just some of Booking.com’s Las Palmas accommodations options, alongside cheap guesthouses and apartments, all connected by coastal road to Gran Canaria Airport.

Las Palmas is a good place for a relaxing vacation. Relaxing vibes, good weather, nice beaches. Transportation is ample, and it's easy to understand how to get around. That being said, the odd layout of Las Palmas can make deciding on a location a bit confusing, which leads me to my only grip: the old town is dead in the off season. The island will definitely appeal to alot of people from all walks - Interestingly the south caters for more touristic attractions and opportunities whilst the centre and north are more historic. The island is accessible via public transport from St. Telmo (bus station) - You'll need to work out the way the busses work (Blue for inter-town, Orange for inside towns) and download the GuaGua app (There's two of them!) - Google Maps helps alot in navigating whilst Apple-Maps is a little sparse on information. Dont go the route to hire a car - Its not needed and buses are frequent and easily accommodating. Restaurants are a pick'n'mix re success - Some are great (look for the locals seems a big deal)

Great to walk all over the city. The old town and so many beautiful beaches where there are no tourists. They are all on one beach. Positive attitude from everyone I met. Nice to rent a bicycle and travel on excellent bicycle routes throughout the city. Lots of good restaurants. I was there for a month, it felt way too short.GunnarIceland

Located in the old town area, in a beautiful neighborhood, close to everything, market, museum, downtown, bus station, shopping, beach etc. The cleanest apartament we have ever seen, and also the most equipped one: kitchen, bathroom. We were staying in the smaller apartament, we saw the bigger one too, next time we definately book that one, is more airy/spacy. It was very nice to sit on the cozy balcony after a long day. Tyko, the manager was helpful in every way! We wil be back for sure!

It's centrally located and yet it's on a quiet street. Restaurants, and supermarkets, are all within easy walking distance. The San Telmo bus station is easily accessible on foot. San Telmo is one of the main transport hubs in Las Palmas.
