The Old Quay House Hotel, hotel in Charlestown

A luxury hotel in Cornwall overlooking the Fowey’s attractive waterfront, the award-winning Old Quay House has a waterside terrace with estuary views. Wi-Fi is free to use.

My husband and I stayed midweek early season for one night as we were walking through on our honeymoon. We appreciated the manager Sue switching us from a room with a window over the street to a room with a water view, even though another staff member was saying that we would need to pay extra for that upgrade. We thought our new room was very comfortable, the location was good and the breakfast was enjoyable.

Harbour Hotel Fowey, hotel in Charlestown

Set in beautifully landscaped gardens, right by the water's edge, the award-winning Harbor Hotel Fowey has a scenic and peaceful location.

Boutique hotel with a very small number of rooms in a historic building was out of sight; room was spacious and bedding including extraordinarily soft high thread count cotton sheets; bartender was friendly; receptionist was hugely helpful acting as concierge to answer all of my local questions; deck view of estuary mouth and English channel was awesome; complimentary smooth as water gin stored in a crystal decanter and tonic water was a fantastic surprise

Visiting Cornwall, then Charlestown is a must, and perfect for a short or long stay. Great eating places, with Vegetarian or Vegan options. Lots of atmosphere, and we are sure you will want to return time and again, just like us! Well known for a variety of tv shows being filmed in Charlestown. We can highly recommend Poldark Cottage in the heart of Charlestown yet peaceful and perfect.

A quaint little place, home of the shipwreck museum.

A quaint little place, home of the shipwreck museum. We didn't go in as we visited at Christmas and only the tunnels were open. Lots of dog friendly places to eat and drink. Some arts and crafts shops, antiques and a great ice cream shop just outside the museum. A large council carpark opposite the museum, if you want free parking you need to get there super early for a space and I can imagine the village/town is very overcrowded in the summer. Easy walk to Tesco (uphill) and Nial's bakery which has great food and pastries. Beach is stony but lovely and sheltered, dogs are allowed October to April. You can walk the coastal path to Carolyn Bay which is a sandy beach but it is very uphill all the way so probably not suitable for very young children or if carrying loads of 'stuff' (there is a car park at Carolyn Bay).

    Churchtown is lovely historic harbour.

Churchtown is lovely historic harbour. Old fashioned pubs with food. We liked the Rashleigh arms for drinks and they had a quiz on Tuesday. We were mainly driving but took public transport on the Friday, cost us nothing on our Liverpool Bus Passes. Was reliable.

The area is very well looked after, appreciate it was at the beginning of the season but everywhere was clean and tidy. Lots of places to eat, food was lovely and reasonably priced. It is a very atmospheric place around the old harbour & lively enough in the day with lots of facilities around such as the harbour barbecue & a particular favourite of ours a bar called the Rum Sailor built into the side of the harbour, plenty of good Quality restaurants we used the Pier Hotel on 2 occasions & Wreckers Bar both had good quality sea food. My wife never tries of walking round the old harbour which has often been used in TV series such as Poldark & Taboo.

    Great little town.

Great little town. Picturesque, museum, old ships, plenty of pubs/restaurants. 2small beaches, but other bigger beaches not to far. An ideal place for all. As with all holiday destinations take enough money. The Rashliegh Arms and Pier Hotel are very good pubs which have restaurants . We had a meal in the Rashliegh which was very good. The Pier Hotel is almost sitting on harbourside, making it a good outdoor sitting area, with plenty of room. Getting around Charlestown is easy. A gentle slope leads down to harbour and beach. Parking there we had no problem.
