Another Northern town that needs & deserves more visitors? The centre has a couple of very interesting sites (Victorian Arts & Crafts style Council Offices were beautiful inside). But they are on the edge of a vast, deserted square ringed by mainly pubs & bars which are closed/deserted during the daytime. Maybe things come alive after dark, but I doubt it...If you live in the crowded South of England, you might find this refreshing/alarming/interesting/disappointing, depending on your point of view. We didn’t see much of it as we were at a wedding.
We didn’t see much of it as we were at a wedding. We did however have Dinner and Breakfast and it again was excellent. It was a pleasure to stay in such a beautiful building. The decor in the restaurant was beautiful. Apparently the original owner built the dining room for a young daughter’s birthday. There is also an extra area that is cordoned of, however can be opened for more diners or a private party. The reception bar before dining is enchanting old pub style.
