The cleanliness of the room was very very bad, gag buts on the verander, mini fridge didn’t work and kept us awake, my partner found a tablet on the bathroom floor, the French doors never closed due to a faulty door seal.

Sacred English Heritage
Durham could definitely be one of those towns that appear in fairy tales and stories of kings and knights. Lying on a hilled peninsula formed by the Wear River, the striking cathedral overlooks from the hilltop, surrounded by the castle, palaces and historic buildings. Get transported back in time by the magic of this English jewel, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Though archaeological evidence suggests the area has been inhabited since 2000 BC, the present-day settlement was founded by monks from Lindisfarne in 995, choosing the area as the final resting place of Saint Cuthbert. Symeon of Durham stated once that ‘to see Durham is to see the English Zion, and by doing so one may save oneself a trip to Jerusalem’. Hotels and B&Bs in Durham’s historic centre are a popular choice to enjoy this historic legacy.
Its powerful religious position granted such great honour to the city, that the bishop still holds the rights to a seat in the House of Lords, and to accompany the sovereign at the coronation. During the 19th century and encompassing the industrial revolution, the university was founded, with Durham Castle becoming its first college.

Durham offers something for everyone.
Durham offers something for everyone. Even more for those who wish to explore the historic castle and Cathedral and surrounding streets. The city offers a comprehensive range of food and restaurants. It is accessible by road and rail.
If you find steep streets challenging there are still plenty of places to pause and browse or rest and eat or drink.
It is a beautiful city to visit.

A lot of pubs where the students go were scruffy and uninviting ( ripped furniture etc). Loved the areas around the cathedral, castle, town square and the river. Tour of castle was limited to 4 areas due to students living in the castle which we were not informed about when we purchased tickets. Thought it was a total waste of time going.
Some nice places to eat such as the Spice Lounge just off the square,Turkish kitchen near the cathedral and the Boat Club near the river.

I loved Durham. I did a tour of the Cathedral and Castle. I felt very safe being on my own and people I did speak to were very chatty.
It was very peaceful walking along the river.
There did seem to be an awful lot of Church's,
I attended the Easter Service at the Cathedral, it was lovely. The choir had 30 children and 11 adults in it. The volunteers were very good.
I would like to come again soon.
I stayed at the Kingslodge Inn, and ate there and at an Indian Restaurant Alishan. The food was delicious.

Durham Cathedral is a must, of all the cathedrals i have visited this must rate as the highest. It was warm, packed with history and information. Great shop, cafe and clean toilets.
Durham guided tour of the Castle is also very good, just be aware to do either or both, its going up quite a steep climb.
You must take the time to visit the living museum at Beamish, although be prepared to allow two days or at least a day and a half. There is so much to see, and the interaction with the characters on the site is fantastic and so informative. Enjoy the vintage tram and bus rides and dont miss out on puffing Billy.
FInally make sure you see the Bowes Museum, it will probably take you 3-4 hours but its worth it.
This accommodation was perfect for our needs. It was absolutely simple to find and surpassed our expectations from the moment we opened the front door. It all looks like new with comfortable beds, clean towels and is spotlessly clean throughout. I cannot recommend it highly enough. If you need a place with an easy drive or bus to Durham City centre, this is the place.
Communication with the hosts was faultless and the welcome we received was lovely.
The hotel had the basic amenities. Everything was clean and well maintained.
Please note that I was here for longer than the average stay ( I was there for 14 or so days)
I cannot praise the staff highly enough. I had a couple of personal crises with family members and the staff helped me to navigate the situations very competently and professionally.
Aside from that, the staff were always receptive, helpful and attentive to any needs I had.
The hotel is located on the river just a short walk to the city centre. My room had lots of space and comfortable. I liked the coffee table and chair by the window in particular. The bathroom has everything you need as well as being very clean. The breakfast was really enjoyable with lots of choice. Lastly it is possible to use the spa facilities as a guest. There is a pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi, which is a real added bonus for a stay.
no breakfast offered but did not mind... location was great.. noise stopped around midnight from the bar and outside which was no problem and room quiet until 6:30 when noise from pipes became an issue.. but was what i expected anyway for a city centre hotel.
Gillian on check in couldn't have been more friendly on giving instructions about wifi, room and keys to room etc ... she was great
The hotel was in a great location just a short walk from the city centre, cathedral and castle. The hotel had a very pleasant ambience to it. The staff were very pleasant. The reception, lounge and bar areas were very pleasant, as was the coffee shop. We didn't use the restaurant.
The room had a fridge and kettle, with tea, coffee and biscuits which was nice.
The location was beautiful, it overlooks fields, is very quiet and a short drive to park and ride for Durham. We were upgraded to a modern newly built apartment that was very spacious and comfortable for a 5 night stay and were amazed at the scale of this property it being a combination of old renovated cottages and new builds.
Location was perfect for access to Durham University Open Day, could either walk 20-30mins or catch frequent public bus service from right outside the hotel. Easy stroll down to the river and beautiful countryside on doorstep. Breakfast was sufficient for the price.
Lovely quirky b and b on the outskirts of Durham with a very good Italian restaurant attached. Max the owner was very obliging and coped admirably when we as a party of 12 turned up. Will definitely be staying again next time we visit family up there.
The location by the river was quality.
The easiness of arriving/parking at the hotel was very good.
Check in was rapid- no more that 5 minutes.
Breakfast was plentiful.
Location to Durham City Centre was very convenient.
Bedroom was stylish, comfortable and perfect for weekend break. Good price for a more upmarket hotel. Stone throw away from city centre. Slightly antiquated in style, but the old university building shines like a gem.
The location was excellent, within easy walking distance to shops and restaurants in Durham. Also convenient to the University and Cathedral. We didn't have to drive to see the local sights we wanted to see.
The shower was fantastic. TV, WiFi were nice too. A 5-minute drive from Durham city centre. No traffic. Quiet. Secluded. Martin was really friendly, flexible and approachable. Generously portioned bedroom.
Quirky traditional Victorian guesthouse, within walking distance to Durham city centre. Wonderful staff! Big shout out to Anna, who made our stay extra special. Comfortable bed and fabulous breakfast.
Excellent vfm and a unique setting. Room was comfortable and continental breakfast was very good. Staff were very helpful and informative. Excellent base for exploring Durham and surrounding areas.
A great location, able to walk into the city centre, however guests should be aware that this is not a hotel or B&B, it is just a bedroom inside a residential house within a housing estate.
A bit of a wander from Durham City centre's train station, but pleasant enough.
Good breakfast.
Great helpful and cheery staff and welcoming friendly public house.
