Ford House, hotel in Stockland

Housed in a historic building, the recently renovated Ford House features accommodations with a garden and free Wifi.

Ford House was in a very secluded and beautiful location. The house itself was very unique. It had a big thatched roof, plenty of original features and beautiful gardens surrounding it. Breakfast was also brilliant, so much choice!

A beautiful parish I did not know about.

A beautiful parish I did not know about. A bit of a hidden gem with a strong community and collectively owned pub. A place I would like to explore more in the future. Fantastic scenery with hills and woods all around.

Picture-book thatched cottage, in remote valley setting.

Picture-book thatched cottage, in remote valley setting. Comfy bed. However missing benefit of on-site owner or manager. General air of neglect in gloomy breakfast/sitting room, part refurbished and full of musty furniture. Extensive gardens completely overgrown. No one present on arrival and poor bathroom facilities. Pippa the dog- sitter was very hospitable the next day. Little choice and cheap ingredients at breakfast. Not what we expected for the price.

There is a pub down the road which does an excellent evening meal. If we had had more time we would have tried one of the local walks, we have to remember that we are both in our 80s, so they have to be in our capabilities.

Good location for visiting Lyme Regis, Seaton and Bere all beautiful and good tip from hosts to park at Uplime (free all day!) for lovely riverside walk through to Lyme Regis. Visit to the old mill at Lyme was very good all run by volunteers but very interesting talk and demonstration of milling process.

We really enjoyed our stay in such a tranquil setting, it was so peaceful no traffic noise just so quiet and very relaxing. The owners are such a nice a couple and nothing was too much trouble for them, such a warm welcome. The full English breakfast with all the extras was amazing. The only down side was it was difficult to find and you need to go in day light. I hope to return next year, it's a place to recharge your batteries .
