The Ballina Manor Hotel is always where I stay when I return to my grandfather's place of birth in County Mayo. Set along the River Moy, it was lovely to have a drink and watch the activities along the river.

This beautiful and historic castle is set within 1,000 acres of woodland. On the banks of the River Moy, it features a restaurant made from the remains of a 17th-century Spanish galleon.

The rustic charm of this unique castle is only matched by the friendliness of the staff. We tried the steak cooked by flame in Jameson whiskey in a 15th century sword. It was an amazing experience. We will definitely revisit.

Very central location so once parked up you can walk everywhere thereafter. Breakfast and lunchtime meals were great, served in the bar below accommodation. Very polite and helpful staff, easy to approach for advice on the town. The room was ideal for our stay with a huge comfortable bed.
