Hotel Masseria Fortificata Donnaloia, hotel in Monopoli

With a beach 0.9 mi away, Hotel Masseria Fortificata Donnaloia is a restored farmhouse 820 feet from the seaside. The restaurant is a converted hay barn with roof terrace.

This is a charming hotel, extremely relaxing and definitely with a character. Our room (26) was one of the best rooms we stayed in. However, keep in mind, there was no shower, just a jacuzzi with a pullout handle. It didn’t bother us. Hotel staff was very friendly. It was nice chatting to young gentlemen at breakfast specifically. Location is perfect. 10 minutes walk to the beach, but if you need beach umbrellas and chairs, you need to either drive for 7 minutes or take hotel’s free shuttle. Keep in mind that there is a pick up schedule to go back to the hotel, you can’t just leave any time you want. There was one minor thing that bothered us. The breakfast started at 8 am, which is kinda late for us and for the industry standard, but, hey, it’s Puglia, I haven’t met a single tourist who spoke language other than Italian. It was definitely a 5 star experience and we will be recommending Masseria Donnaloia to our friends.

Monopoli is a cute seaside town.

Monopoli is a cute seaside town. It offers a lot with nearby beaches, many restaurants and drinking places. It also has great connections to other cities. If you do not plan to rent a car, then it makes so much sense to base in Monopoli and explore other cities via train or bus. That's what we did. It is not a nightlife place if that's what people are looking for but still there are many places to enjoy a drink or a cocktail.

We are happy that we avoided Bari and instead chose wonderful Monopoli as home base for day-trips across the region. While Monopoli and the cities in general are clean and tidy, there is one general issue for the region: Garbage. It's everywhere. Plastic, glass, you name it, is all littered along roadsides and even on the coastal pathways. The magnitude is staggering and it's such a shame.

I'm very glad I chose Monopoli over Polignano a Mare as a base for our trip in Puglia. Taste is, of course, subjective, but I think Monopoli is the nicest coastal town around Bari, it has a fairly big old town with a lot of quaint streets to explore, plenty of restaurants and even a good stretch of rocky, cliff-y coastline you can actually walk on, peppered with a few small beaches. I imagine it gets just as busy in summer but in April it was less crowded than Polignano and overall feels like there's more space. It's also very well connected, ~ 20 min from Ostuni, ~ 5 min from Polignano, ~1h10 from Lecce, ~30 min from Bari all on the main trainline we used everyday.

A perfect place to spend your vacation regardless the time of the year. Monopoli is very well connected with other tourist destination such Alberobello (by bus, near the train station) , Polignano a Mare (train), Matera ( by train, make sure to change the train at Altamura) and other locations.

Monopoli is a very clean and safe place where you feel comfortable exploring both at day and at night. The historic areas are perfect for pedestrians. We really enjoyed walking the pathways along the Adriatic Sea with historic castles and fortresses, the docks with fishermen returning with their catch, and the beautiful waterfront views.

Words can’t describe how amazing this property and the family is. We truly felt like home away from home. First, we mixed up the buses and they came pick us up from the station. We were so grateful after all this travelling. My sister is vegan and every morning they prepared her special breakfast that even at the best hotels she didn’t get (?!). Everything was perfect. The hospitality, vibes, kindness… the pool, oh the pool. Best B&B in Puglia and we will come back for sure!🤌🏻 Thank you for an amazing Italian experience!

We loved home Bibi for its authenticity in the heart of the old town of Monopoli not far from the sea, the best cafés and restaurants. It was quiet and friendly, the children played in the street and the old people sat on the porch in front of their door. It is a real feel good place. If you ever prefer to eat at home, the kitchen is definitely big enough and absolutely up to date. There is also a washer and dryer to clean your clothes if you need it. We were completely satisfied.

A very beautiful and cosy appartment in the old town. It is only 3 minutes from the old harbor and there are many restaurants and shops nearby. You can reach the first beach after 10 minutes of walking. Donatella was one of the best hosts I've ever had. She is lovely, friendly, helpful and makes you feel at home from the first minute of your stay until your last. It was a perfect holiday in the beautiful town Monopoli. Me, as a female solo traveller, felt very safe there.

Property was in a great location! Right on the busy street leading to the main square, yet very quiet at night as it’s tucked into the center of the garden. Room was very clean and spacious and had a small kitchen area which was nice. The shower had great pressure and was spacious and clean as well. I would definitely recommend staying at this location when staying in Monopoli. The hotel also arranged for us to have private parking at a reasonable price. Grazie!!

In all my years of travel Anna is hands down the best host I’ve ever had. The house is perfect. It’s located about 10-15min walk from the train station and 5min from the main beach. Cafes, grocery, pharmacy are all also walking distance. I’m so glad I picked Monopoli as my pied à terre to explore Puglia and even more glad I picked Anna’s place. It was clean, quiet, amenities are modern but the place has lots of cachet. Would stay there again anytime.

The B&B Don Gino was the best that we could get. The facility was extremely clean, quiet, located in excellent location with an easy access to the old city, city beach Porto Vechio and the restaurants. The facility offers you for free beach umbrella and is open for any request that you might have. Nicla was a great host, so informative and high spirits. Location was good to visit quite a few places, Mola di Bari, Monopoli, Alberobelo, etc. Although you need a car for everything. Breakfast was good enough. Room was clean and good space. The best part was Emmanuella who helped us a lot to plan our days as the weather was not as expected. Also she recommended us some good restaurants nearby.
