In one day you can see everything in the city, take a train or rent a car and visit Puglia region, you have a lot to see. In 2-3 days you can visit Day 1: Bari - Altamura - Matera (overnight in a stone house) Day 2 Martina Franca - Ostuni - Alberobello (don't overnight in trullo house, everything is overrated, chose a hotel if you have to overnight here) Day 3 Monopoli - Polignano A Mare - Bari Enjoy the food, the sea, the olives orchards, the grass, the sky, and freedom!
Great people, delicious food, the city center is a gem. Usually there are nice concerts, including Jazz. Just walk through the city. It has a lot to offer, museums, tons of bars/food places, seaside walks. I think it may be appropriate to visit the city for 2/3 days max. Food you should try: orecchiette alle rape, pizza, pizza alle orecchiette, primitivo Talo' di cui(red wine), polipo alla brace (roasted octopus). Strangely, I have been quite disappointed with the coffee.
People were friendly and helpful. Getting around was no problem as we were close to the train station. Food and drinks very inexpensive and nice. Lots of fish and pasta. Not many tourists at this time of year so a bonus for us. Very authentic Italian experience.
Bari is ok. I had a string of unfortunate encounters including a licensed taxi driver with a E16 fare who demanded a E5 tip. The Budget car rental charged me twice for rental and insurance and for a full take of gas at $78 for half tank used. No petro stations nearby. Felt Scammed. Conpleted online review and will waot to see if any follow up. Not done with Bari Budget yet. Will blog greatly on returning home.
Bari old town is beautiful, perfect for wandering down little streets. Getting around is very easy by foot. Best ice cream is at Gelateria Gentile, where you can eat your gelato next to the castle! I had breakfast at cafe Mozart everyday - the decor is nothing special but it’s a place all the locals go, great for people watching and the service is lovely - v busy but they knew my order when I went in a second time! Best panini and excellent service at Vogliadiscobar in piazza mercantile. Mastro Ciccio is great to pick up arancini for a picnic lunch and the pane e pomodoro beach is really lovely! Golden sand, pretty clean, good for swimming and you can wade out to sun yourself on rocks in the bay. The best thing about Bari is the ease of day trips by train. Monopoli is stunning - go to Don Ferrante for lunch for a treat! Polignano a Mare is really lovely, Lido Cala Paura is best if you don’t mind pebbles, take water shoes, and I had an incredible lunch of artichoke bruschette at Sanbe. Lecce is gorgeous but ignore the New York Times - not worth it to go to San Cataldo, just stay in the city and absorb the great atmosphere, architecture and food. The people are very polite and friendly and the food in Puglia is amazing. Go!!
Matera in Bari centrale is a must! Be sure you have good walking shoes. As most anywhere in Italy cars are everywhere and driving is hazardous to your health! Streets are extremely narrow and can be hazardous to your health.

We chose this hotel as it was close by the airport and the price was reasonable... although fairy old from the looks of it/our impression, it was fairly comfortable. The receptionist was very nice/helpful/friendly on checking in the Sunday evening, and suggested a couple of local restaurants. The following morning we checked out with now issues. We’d probably stay again if we need a hotel near airport at Bari.

Guido is one of the best hosts I've met. We had an issue with the shower and he solved it promptly. Kind and very helpful. A big 10 for him. The apartment is well equipped. The bed is comfy. Silent room. Is very close to the Bari Centrale railway and also 15 min from Bari's City Center. Is good value in my opinion and if the bad things(which are not so hard to solve) are eliminated it would totally worth.

The water pressure was amazing. Don't know if that is an Italy thing or just in particular for the hotel, but I would go back just for that. Staff was very nice, as you would expect for a respectable hotel. They don't offer a wide variety of breakfast options, but as far as I've seen with other hotels as well, this is common in Italy, or Bari at least.

This is an amazing place to stay in Bari. We arrived late in the evening and it felt like a hidden place in the new town. (5min. Walk to station, old town and shopping street) Many good restaurants nearby but the breakfast on the terrace was a highlight as well. The rooms are super clean and nice bed/bathroom. Definitely stay here instead of some hotel.

Perfect location. In heart of old town. Next to castle and just one minute walk from cathedral. Very stylish high-specification newly created rooms. Very contemporary and clean. Helpful staff. Good breakfast. Small and personal - more like boutique hotel than B&B. Also excellent ‘fine dining’ fish restaurant on ground floor.

Beautiful and romantic place made with care and lots of details. It is a quiet building inside with a beautiful terrace with the best view and downstairs a small but cozy breakfast room, also in the heart of Bari Old Town surrounded by restaurants, bars and main buildings. Breakfast is deliciuous and taste home made.

Owner is friendly and be able to guide you in the city; where to go or dine. Even you are arrive at 6am, he is waiting for you. I did not expect for private breakfast area quite happy with it with sun lounge. The place is just across to train station if you travel by train, it is the best spot.
