At the southwestern tip of its beautiful lake, Como has wonderful views of the surrounding Alps. A cable car runs up to the village of Brunate, where you can see Switzerland on the opposite side.
The peaceful location is a favorite with celebs, but the town has been around since Roman times. In fact, 2 of its most famous sons – Pliny the Elder and Younger – are commemorated in statues on the façade of the 14th-century cathedral. The next-door Broletto dates to the previous century, and the remains of the medieval walls and Castello Baradello are even older and sit on a hill overlooking the town.
Much more modern in style, the Casa del Fascio was built during Mussolini’s rule. The streets between here and the waterfront are packed with shops, bars and restaurants, and Lake Como boat trips depart from the small marina.
The neighboring park houses a temple-like museum about Alessandro Volta (another former resident), and around the shoreline is elegant Villa Olmo which looks across landscaped gardens to the water’s edge.
The Como accommodations on Booking.com include luxury lakefront hotels, centrally located B&Bs and cheap apartments near San Giovanni Train Station, with direct services to Milan.

Como has a mixture of great shopping. The market is amazing. Lovely restaurants, You could dine in a different place every day of the year. It is a beautiful place. The lake views are wonderful. There is some construction going on at the lake from, but it will be lovely when finished.
We have been many times and it never disappoints. It is our favourite place in Italy.

Very pretty with plenty of place to eat. Interesting market. We found getting a bus around the lake and taking the ferry back worked best for us as the queue to buy ferry tickets can be quite long in Como.

Como is good for a centre to see the Southern part of the lake. The downside is it is very busy. Too many day trippers. The boats are crowded and long queues. They have also dug up most of the promenade at the moment which spoils the lakeside area. The bus is a good alternative to the ferry. Best to stay here a few days and then move on to Varenna, Lenno or Mennagio.

Stunning town in a beautiful part of Italy.
Stunning town in a beautiful part of Italy. Good transport links via Milan (land at Linate airport, then metro to Milano Centrale station, then train). The town itself is the main attraction, with great restaurants, and good shopping from groceries to fashion. Then you can visit the smaller towns of Lake Como by ferry or bus.

Try not to travel in peak season. Sooo many tourists!
Make sure you book ferry travel (for the lake) day before but be aware tickets are non refundable. Big cues at the ticket office...go early!!
Slow ferry outward bound is great with the fast ferry for return. Tickets are not inexpensive if travelling on a budget however well worth budgeting for! Como and the townships along the lake are beautiful!
Try to find places where the locals eat....in the back streets usually.
Como was our last stop after six weeks in Italy .... we were a little over visiting cathedrals etc however we really enjoyed site seeing and sitting in the local cafes people watching.
The hotel staff were warm and welcoming and helped me plan my trip to visit local spots of interest. The rooms are decorated by a theme of cities on Lake Como! Very cute, comfy bed and nice bathroom and decor. The breakfast buffet was really delicious and accommodating to gluten free options. At checkout, they had a goodie bag with water and chocolates, a nice touch at the end of my stay. It is in the heart of the historic district and easy walking to many great restaurants and shops! I’m definitely coming back! Thank you so much!!💕💕
The location of this property is very good. You come out of it and there are so many restaurants in 20 metre square and all of them very good.
This is 5 mins by cab from hotel to Railway station and 5 min walk to the ship pier.
It has a very good view of the lake como once you are out of the room. The room is spacious and very private.
The host is very friendly and super helpful. On our day of leaving due to strike there were no taxis and the host dropped us to station.
This is a secret gem in Como. The location of the hotel is perfect for walking which takes 25min to Como or if you prefer with bikes which hotel provides. Breakfast is exceptional, served in such a perfect ambiance with good selections for everyones choice, staff is super friendly and helpfull, but Mattia is an example how one should manage a hotel, we really felt so welcomed and appreciated.
They made my birthday weekend so special I can not wait to come back again!!
If you are staying in lake Como region for vacation, this is a bad location, the area is dodgy and offers nothing at walking distance. Its surrounded by constructions. If you are transiting to other places in Italy, its convenient, close to highway, but way too expensive for a stopover. I would never go back! Also, we were charged 150 EUR for an extra kid, and the staff was unfriendly and unwilling to offer better alternative solutions.
Best Plaza in town. The hotel truely is a hidden gem. it's boutique and very very cute, the rooms are cozy and the bed was paradise.
The owners are friendly and helpful.
The breakfast - for we are in Italy - was unexpectedly rich and you can sit in the Winter Garden overlooking the plaza in front seeing the neighbourhood waren up. I loved every Minute.
We were blown away with this lovely hotel. We were greeted by very friendly staff on arrival and were told that both of the rooms we had booked had been upgraded. Our daughters room had a spectacular view over the lake. The breakfast is served in the most magical room i have ever seen. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Lake Como
amazing location right on lake Como allowing the most beautiful view, the room itself was spacious and clean providing a lovely stay. And to accompany the host was the most accommodating person I’ve met on our Italy trip going above and beyond to ensure our stay was nothing but perfect, made it a very special experience.
Location was perfect. You can walk to everything. The hotel is across the street from Lake Como. You just walk to everything. King size bed, very new modern bathroom, and very clean. Host left snacks and drinks in the room refrigerator for us. Nice touch. There is a lift to get you upstairs to your room.
The Hotel Firenze is a great little find in the absolute center piazza of Como. It is close to Lake Como and the boat rides on the lake. The staff was very helpful in answering questions and arranging taxis. I can't think of a better place to stay in Como for the location combined with the room price.
The photos do not do the hotel justice. The rooms are very well appointed and the location in Como center is great. We had a lakeview balcony. The breakfast was rich and plentiful. The staff was very friendly, efficient and happy to help - shout out to Matteo! The drinks are fairly priced.
Great location! A perfect overnight stay after a day spent exploring beautiful Como and the surrounding area. A large bathroom, a comfortable bed, perfect air conditioning, a fridge with cold drinks and a coffee machine - what else?☕️😉Very nice owners. It was my best rest in Italy😎
Location was wonderful, walkable everywhere in Como. Just a short walk to the ferry and train station and restaurants. The hotel owner was incredibly kind and helpful. There is a small elevator which is nice for when you are moving luggage. The rooms are clean and it’s a good value.
Staff was very friendly, polite and helpful. The suite was big, modern looking and clean. The hotel was very close (walking distance) from key spots in como such as the como lago train station, the ferry station and city center.
Como is just a beautiful place and this hotel is just a couple of minutes away from the centre of the town and the lake. The owners were very nice and helpful. The room was modern and spacious. I dont have much to complain.
We were welcomed extremely friendly by the owner, who shared some tipps with us for our stay in Como. The hotel is nice and clean. It is located really well, only 5mins by foot the lake or the city centre.
Nice hotel, good breakfast with many choices. They were nice and we could leave our luggage in the hotel from the morning. Very well situated, near the train station and you can easily reach Como Lake.
Gaby Lakes Suites was a perfect location for our stay in Lake Como- beautiful view of the lake from our room. Close to everything. Highly recommend this hotel and would definately stay there again!
