FAQs about hotels in Catania

The Perfect Combination of Ancient and Modern

On Sicily’s eastern coast, at the foot of Mount Etna, Catania is the island’s second largest city. This charming destination features unique Sicilian Baroque architecture, large squares, avenues and a very important port.

On the northern side of the Cathedral Square, the historical Palazzo degli Elefanti houses the Town Hall of Catania. The Elephant Fountain is the city’s symbol and the entrance to the main shopping area. Surrounded by stunning Baroque buildings, Piazza del Duomo is a popular meeting point for tourists and locals.

Dedicated to Saint Agata and built over the Roman Baths of Achilles, the Duomo has an impressive facade that is one of Gia Battista Vaccarini’s masterpieces. The cathedral’s dome dates to 1802, while in the vaulted interior is the grave of the well-known composer Vincenzo Bellini.

Facing the Ionian Sea, this beautiful seaside place is one the hottest Italian cities during the summer. Mount Etna is an active volcano and a nice place for skiing in winter or a trip to the solidified rivers of lava during the rest of the year.

Catania is easily accessible with Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, served by numerous European destinations like Munich, Rome and London. You can stay in one of the Catania hotels, guesthouses or hostels with Booking.com.

I've dined at Al Vicolo Pizza&Vino and sampled other restaurants, but none compare to Al Vicolo—it's truly the best! As for Catania, it's not a city I'd recommend visiting. It's incredibly crowded, impoverished, and the air quality leaves much to be desired. Getting around isn't easy either. However, if you venture to Siracusa or any nearby area, you'll gain a completely different perspective on Sicily.

The main reason for staying was to visit Mount Etna and to look around Catania as part of a trip that took in Palermo, Catania and Taormina. It was only 24 hours but our accommodation at B&B La Cupola certainly made the journey worthwhile. The city was a safe environment to walk around and the food was excellent. Do consider using the rail system as it worked well for us transferring from West to East.

I loved the historic architecture around Via Etnea where I was staying at Etna Suites Group. The food options were everywhere, shopping at all financial levels, and the city was made for pedestrians first and cars second. Don't get a car! You can walk everywhere you want to go and the walk will be exciting and fun. I never felt scared or worried about my safety day or night. I got a tour of Etna that picked me up from my hotel and drove me all the way up and dropped me back off where I started. Awesome awesome city.

It is not just a tourist destination but still a real place. Beautiful architecture with a bit of grit. Nice people. Plenty to explore. Good day trip capabilities and public transportation. We stayed here the night before an early flight out of Catania airport. They arranged transportation to the airport at 5:00am for us which was much appreciated. We dropped off our rental car at the airport the night before (since the rental agency was closed at 5:00 am) and walked back to the hotel for the night. Only a 10-15 minute walk from the airport but there's a section that doesn't have sidewalk so it might be tricky with luggage.

We booked this Hotel for our last night before we left Sicily because it's near the airport. It has a beach area in walking distance, which was nice but not the best water quality. There is free parking for cars. The dinner was outside in the garden which looked really pretty (we just saw it, ate elsewhere). Breakfast was okay but nothing special and little selection in my opinion. Staff was friendly.

I liked almost everything, staff was super friendly, room was big and nice with blackout options. The shower was amazing. One pillow on the bed was memory foam. That was a very pleasant surprise. Location in Via Etnea across Villa Bellini is really nice, and it makes for a nice morning walk to the train station as I used Catania as base for exploring the east coast of Sicily.

The hotel is close to the airport and close to road connections. The rooms are big and nice. The hotel provides free transportation to the airport, which is welcome because, despite the fact that the airport is a 10-minute walk away, the road does not have a sidewalk. The restaurant is very good, but the prices are a little higher than those in Catania.

20 Miglia is nice, and the breakfast pretty generous. But the side of Catania it is in isn't the best, and the room, while comfortable, was pretty basic for a 'four star' hotel. We wished there'd been slippers, a kettle, but nope. Considering it didn't come cheap, we expected just a little bit more.
