Panama City has positives-we found the Metro and bus system useful and very cheap, but with the price of Ubers you might find them more convenient. We had no issues with the Ubers we used. In terms of things to do these were our favourites:
1)the Canal-the IMAX presentation was informative and watching a ship transit was fascinating-check to make sure there is a ship going through when you want to visit-there can be hours between them
2)the Biomuseum-we thought it was great especially if you are travelling with younger kids
3)the Old City- we enjoyed it but it is a tourist place- we found it interesting that while the Old City is a ‘must see’ it is bordered by areas of the city which are very sketchy, especially at night.
4)the board walk by the sea is a nice place to spend time in the evening
And that was about it for us. We are not out at night so can’t speak to the nightlife. Other than that we found Panama City, loud, and difficult to navigate on foot. For us, 2 days would probably have done it.

I just stayed in Panama City for 2 overnight layovers. I was a single female traveler who always felt safe. Panama City is sophisticated and cosmopolitan. Everyone I interacted with courteous and friendly. I hope to return soon to see more of this beautiful country with a big heart.

This is a modern city with all amenities.
This is a modern city with all amenities. Views along the waterfront are spectacular. We found a great place for coffee and breakfast in the old city and really enjoyed the rooftop bars and restaurants. It's very easy and inexpensive to get around with Uber or taxi. We found the rates with Uber to be very reasonable. Loved the seafood market whch is a collection of smaller eateries, and Casa Casco rooftop which offers panoramic city views. Do venture outside the city to see what else this diverse and vibrant country has to offer!

Panamá City is a wonderful mix of old and new, rich and poor. Wherever we went, especially in the Old Town we felt safe and welcomed. The churches, Spanish architecture, food, and wonderful celebrations should not be missed. The Miraflores Locks, including the IMAX movie is a must see. I would have never chosen Panama City as a place to visit if it had not been for a cruise we chose out of Colon, but, am so glad that we had this opportunity.

We stayed a week, which might have been a day too long.
We stayed a week, which might have been a day too long. Old Town was nice, but if going there try to avoid times when cruise ships arrive. Metropolitan Park and Ancon hill were both great. We visited Miraflores locks - took an Uber instead of a guided tour. It’s well worth doing, but before going be sure to check the times that shipping will pass that day. We had to wait around about 4 hours because we failed to do that! Loved the Cinta Contera great walks and views. Check out Mi Pueblito at the base of Ancon Hill- well worth the $3 fee which includes an English- speaking guide. Favorite restaurant - Lucca in El Congrejo. Upscale surroundings but not upscale prices, with excellent pizza. The rest of the menu looked great too. Murphys bar for happy hour drinks but I wouldn’t eat there again.
In the best area of Panama City. We loved Casco Viejo. The hotel is in the old colonial style. We loved it. A big living room with dining table, a small kitchen and a separate bedroom and bathroom with beautiful tiles in the shower.
There is a great restaurant under the hotel with a cosy garden with good cocktails and good food. The people from cleaning and the manager were very kind. They even gave us free check out so our baby could do his nap before heading to the south.
It is the classic hotel from last century in Panama but has been ugpraded with the nice finishing of modern times. The hall ways are incredibly wide, you feel the tropical weather with the wind and the great climate. The breakfast has lots of options, very nice restaurant. Giant pool but did not have time to use it. Just like the classic Hotel Del Coronado in California without beaches. Location inside the city in central place near metro station.
The hotel is modern, stunning, and very well appointed. It is centrally located within the banking and business district, and very accessible. The suite we stayed in was extremely spacious and ridiculously luxurious. Everything was perfect, and the view from the 31st floor of Panama City was amazing both day and night. If you are looking for a luxurious and comfortable hotel option in Panama City this is definitely the way to go.
Amazing hostel. Very modern, felt like more of a home. The guy had music playing, was very easy going, and the pool with trees and grass and chairs made it feel like more of a backyard than a hotel swimming pool. This is a hidden gem in panama city. For the price I payed, and the neighbourhood you're in, wow! To feel like I'm in a home instead of a hostel with a pool, I'd highly recommend this place.
We enjoyed all aspects of the Beach House- the location and view are great, the room and bathroom are large and well-appointed, everything in the hotel is clean.
We noticed some people have complained about the breakfast. It is *not* an American-style breakfast, but there was plenty of food and it was healthy. The slices of meat, cheese, and bread are intended for toasted sandwiches.
The Service was super kind and friendly. The room was bigger than usual, in good conditions and quite. The bed was super comfortable. The pool on the Rooftop offers a short swim with an amazing view over Panama City. The hotel is also well located. The small fitness room also offers the possibility to have a small workout during your stay.
If this place is available, and in your price range, and you want to stay in Casco Viejo, its definetely worth it, the biggest, suite/hotel room we have had, fully equipped kitchen, balconies, two bathrooms, just great.
They have a rooftop bar, which we went for couple drinks in the evening, the view of Panama city was spectacular
Overall this was a great stay. Our flight was cancelled out of Panama City to Peru so we stayed here for one night. The bed was super comfy and the grounds were nice. It was a bit more expensive than hotels a bit closer to airport but it had no airport noise and was a quick ride to the airport in the morning.
Our home away from home in Panama City! The rooftop pool is the main attraction and the fact that one can cater for oneself is a huge help. Isabel and her staff go beyond the call of duty to make their guests comfortable. There is really nothing I can fault the hotel on,.
We have stayed at many hotels in Panama City and this was one of the best experiences. Very comfortable room, super friendly staff. Breakfast had a great variety. Pool area isn’t huge but was never crowded. Good location - easy to get anywhere we needed to in the city.
Go-to hotel in Panama for 8+ years. The breakfast is very good but expensive at $16.99 per person.I usually travel w/ 3-5 family members so it can get quite costly. Location is perfect;close to the highway, downtown Panama and Panama City attractions.
Hotel Milan is a perfect budget friendly hotel in Panama City. It is exceptionally clean, the rooms are spacious and the staff are efficient. Ana, the assistant manager, is particularly helpful and wonderfully accommodating.
This is a good-value-for-money hotel. It is well located, in the central area of Panama City. It is very simple (it does not have a swimming pool, for instance, or a mini-gim), but the price is excellent.
We love boutique hotels and this hotel is exactly what we always look for - great attention to detail, wonderful staff and food. If we end up going back to Panama City, we would stay in this hotel again.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel is well located and the bed was comfortable. The wifi worked well. Overall I enjoyed my stay and it is a fun place to stay in Panama City.
Very nice hotel in Panamá City. The staff were great, very kind and helpful. Housekeeping is top notch!
The metro is just a few steps away as well as lots of restaurants and a grocery store.
the best hotel in Panama city in this price range. amazing breakfast, super fast wifi! very clean and spacious. receptionists are very kind and attentive.
