Our upgraded room was very spacious. The bed was comfy and the bathroom had a large bathtub. We were given a complimentary bottle of champagne and a dessert. The A-C worked very well and the room was sound proof. Breakfast was good. The front desk staff went above and beyond to assist us with our next reservation when I was unable to contact the host.

Portugal’s medieval capital, and a pioneer of fado music alongside its modern counterpart Lisbon, Coimbra is a vibrant university city with a good helping of historic sights.
The university is the country’s oldest and its attractive buildings cover a small hill overlooking the Mondego River. The institution has an excellent science museum, the ornate Joanina Library, and one of the world’s oldest botanical gardens which contributes to the lush landscape.
The midweek nightlife in the city’s bars and restaurants is popular with students, while shopping options range from the stores of the CoimbraShopping complex to smaller boutiques on cobbled streets in the historic Baixa district.
The medieval centre houses the museum of Coimbran sculptor Machado de Castro and the Old Cathedral, begun under the reign of the first Portuguese King, Afonso Henriques. He is buried in Santa Cruz Monastery, while the tomb of a later queen – Elizabeth of Aragon – is in the Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Nova. She founded this hilltop convent to replace flood-prone Santa Clara-a-Velha below. Between them is Portugal dos Pequenitos where Portugal’s main monuments are reproduced in miniature.
Nearby is Quinta das Lágrimas, a 19th-century mansion that is now a luxury hotel on Booking.com. Also available are cheap hostels and guest houses near the 2 main train stations.

We were lucky enough to arrive during the last week of term for the university students, which made the town lively and interesting. The tour of the university , particularly the library, was fascinating. It was also lovely to walk through the old town, eat pastries, listen to music and absorb the atmosphere. Sitting in the Botanic gardens with a book in the afternoon sunshine was an opportunity to relax in otherwise busy days.

Coimbra is a delightful town to visit.
Coimbra is a delightful town to visit. The town is architecturally pleasing, with clean, safe, streets, and a refreshing lack of graffiti.
There is a good choice of hotels and restaurants, and those that we patronized were of good quality, with helpful staff, all of whom, in our experience spoke good English. Recommended

Our accommodation had the perfect location; we walked everywhere. The nearby restaurants were serving great food. Our street had 2 nice restaurants that were frequented by locals, and the prices were very reasonable compared to the more touristy places.

Coimbra is a great city to visit and use as base to explore other locations in central Portugal. Make sure you wear comfy shoes, the cobbles streets and walking is often up steep hills. The library is worth viewing at the university, but make sure you book in advance or get there early, as they have limited tickets and time slots. The parks are beautiful along the river and worth taking the time to visit. If adventuring out, highly recommend Obidos and the Buddha Eden garden, as well as Aveiro and Costa Nova.

Coimbra has a lot to offer travelers.
Coimbra has a lot to offer travelers. Centro (old part of town) is very lovely and has a lot to see. Many small interesting roads and pathways to walk around and see beautiful buildings, historical churchs, shops, cafes...Restaurants are reasonably priced and there is a variety of different cuisines to accommodate everyone. We stayed one night, but could have easily stayed another night.

Coimbra is a great city with very interesting historical sites and churches. Interesting shops and restaurants.
the Igreja santo Christo is especially good to visit situated in a lovely square. The adjoining old cafe has a wonderful atmosphere with a performance of FADO (traditional Portuguese music ) every weekday from 6pm
The accomodatin is very comfortable. Apartment was nice and good equipped. Shared kitchen is clean also. There is enough space in fridges and in cases.
Service is very good. The personnel helped us when we had a problems during the travel accros the Portugal. They were very cooperative.
We spent our holiday in Portugal in four places. The price and level of service were the best here. Thank you very much, we wish you many disciplined guests
The owner and staff here were some of the friendliest folks we met during our ten days in Portugal. They're super welcoming and give you a concise rundown of what to see in Coimbra (including a map and walking instructions). There's a wonderful little courtyard to enjoy a little wine and snack. As others have mentioned, the breakfast was a phenomenal spread with fresh fruits, cheeses, pastries, meats, coffee, tea and fresh-squeezed juice.
Pretty nice hotel centrally located. Walking distance to the most important sites to visit in Coimbra. I did like the fact that you can have access to the building and room by door code. Ricardo is very hospitable, please follow up his instructions to walk around the city, due to the hills in the city. The hotel is very clean, modern, comfortable. I do recommend Sete Restaurant, close to the hotel. Good Portuguese food.
Wonderful hotel right in the heart of the Baixa. This is my third stay here and I'm sure that I'll be back when I am in Coimbra The elevator and airconditining are a must and they work very well here. The beds are comfy (I have always had a room with two single beds pushed together) and the desk and chair are very good. The bathroom is very upgraded and nice - good water pressure, new, nice facilities.
Location is very good. The old city and Coimbra university available by walk. Was very good for one night or more to explore Coimbra. But steps! Like 3 normal floors. Not good for luggage, aged people or problems with knees. Good to visit hotel Oslo just opposite to the appartement parking and ask for a terrace view. Take a glass of wine and enjoy the view. The staff is very friendly.
This is is one of the best place we stayed in Portugal. Host make you feel like you are an old friend. Room was big and clean, shower was clean with everything that you can need. Tasty breakfast with friendly stuff. Incredible territory with cutest goats. Parking inside, so you don’t worry about your car, but still not far away from Coimbra. We will definitely stay again!
The room is luxurious and spacious. The bed the best we've slept on during our 2 weeks travelling around Portugal. The location could not be bettered and the bathroom newly done (previous reviewers have left some negative comments about the bathroom). There is a lift! And Goncalo the perfect host with lots of useful information. Coimbra is an amazing place to visit!
Loved this small hotel. Clean beautiful room. Lovely linens. Efficient and friendly staff. Excellent dinner in their garden restaurant. One of our favorite meals traveling through Portugal. Had the tuna and the fish. Lobby is so cool. Loved the vibe.
Breakfast buffet was delicious. Fruit, eggs breads, cheeses, meats. Good coffee options. Yum.
Nice, newly furnashed appartment, perfect place very close to the city center (it's just on the other side of the bridge), many places to park the car nearby (3 Eur./day). On the 4th floor there is small kitshen and a lovely roof terrace overlooking the old town to sit there. Nice people, as almost everywhere in Portugal.
Everything was amazing, from the greeting and description of the area with the information about Coimbra and Portugal. The breakfast was unbelievable. I would recommend you stay here. A very enjoyable experience, I just wish we could have stayed longer.
Location is good, quite close to almost everything. There are a lot of cafes nearby, so there was no problem with breakfast. A lot of free parking lots nearby, but during daytime can be occupied, because of proximity of Portugal dos Pequenitos.
Beautiful surroundings in a tranquil village. The multiple bedrooms, dishwasher and bright kitchen. The wood burning stove in a beautiful stone room was an added bonus. We enjoyed our long drives discovering this beautiful region of Portugal.
staff was very helpful especially Paulo, Marta at reception and Marta in the restaurant. The hotel and gardens were beautiful but the breakfast was not as big or as good as other hotels we stayed at in Portugal
Incredibly charming and comfortable apartment, perfectly located. No manned reception on site, but the staff of hotel Oslo, who manage the apartment, are kind, knowledgeable and perfectly helpful!
This hotel was my favorite in Portugal. The staff are just amazing, helpful, caring, dedicated to making our stay enjoyable. Breakfast was awesome, with a great selection.
The rooms are so unique and comfortable. It also had the best shower of all the hotels we stayed at in Portugal. It’s a very short distance to all the major attractions
the hotel is situated righ across the street from the old city. the view from the room and the balcony was beautiful overlooking the old city of coimbra.
