FAQs about hotels in Évora

Antiquity and Architecture in the Alentejo

Évora is a beacon of heritage in the heart of rural Portugal. Life is played out among narrow, cobbled streets and whitewashed buildings that provide welcome shade. Most buildings are decorated with blue or yellow trim, giving this laidback city a coherent feel.

Blue tiles adorn the incredible interior of the Misericórdia Church, and the Church of St John the Evangelist also features this typical Alentejo style. The most outlandish is the Church of St Francis where one chapel is created entirely from human bones and skulls.

The Gothic cathedral has a peaceful cloister and next door is Évora Museum with its collection of medieval, Islamic and Roman artefacts. In the large square in front sit remains of the Roman Temple, and Roman bath ruins lie under the town hall.

The Palace of the Dukes of Cadaval has a turret-like tower, similar to those in the city walls. One of Évora’s most impressive monuments – the 16th-century Silver Water Aqueduct – passes right through the walls and used to end in large Praça do Giraldo, the city centre’s main square. Some of its stone arches have been cleverly bricked in to create bars and restaurants.

Booking.com’s accommodation in Évora includes luxury hotels with pools, cheap hostels near the train station and guest houses by the university.

Evora is a lovely city full of history and unexpected corners. We used Evora as our "base-camp" to visit many other interesting places in the region, including the megaliths of Cromeleque des Almendres, Estremoz, Vilaviçosa and Elvas.

Evora is a great destination for your headquarters in the Alentejo region. We stayed three nights, and it was cool enough to discover Evora itself. You will need a full day and up to two days to explore the region. I strongly recommend including a visit to Monsaras, a 30- 40-minute car ride away; it is one of the most incredible landscapes on the entire trip.

My husband and I really enjoyed our brief stay in Evora.

My husband and I really enjoyed our brief stay in Evora. The historic center is very walkable overall, so it is easy to see several things in a short time. We were impressed with the Cathedral and the Chapel of Bones, but what we enjoyed the most was the lovely Jardim Público de Évora (public park and gardens). It was the end of April and Springtime has been wet this year, so everything was green and the flowers were blooming. The temperature was perfect for our visit. We ate dinner at D'Iberica and it was delicious! The waitstaff there were very nice and recommended a delicious wine for our meal. The menu was extensive and everything we saw come out of the kitchen looked wonderful.

Evora is a one-night stay town.

Evora is a one-night stay town. The Chaple of Bones was a great place to spend Halloween. Interesting history. A walk around the Public Park with the Peacocks was a fun experience. We ate at Dona Laura Restaurant which I would highly recommend to others. The Hotel was centrally located and we walked everywhere. The one negative comment was that Evora was the first city I visited where beggars approached you aggressively holding small children.

Terrific historic town, wonderful preservant of ancient buildings, culture and history mixed with modern life. Disappointed that the palace and private church were closed on Monday—tour book had indicated otherwise. Definitely a town with rich heritage worth visiting.

The staff is wonderful, especially Jao. He took the time to orient us to Evora and point out the things that he felt we should see during our short visit. His recommendation for dinner was wonderful. The breakfast is very well done with plenty of choices. You can eat outside in the garden which was really pleasant and charming. We loved the fact that the hotel was a bit away from core tourist area of Evora, but still within the wall. It is an easy walk to all the sights. The room was quite large and very comfortable.

This was my second stay this year at the hotel. I had a great experience the first time and this stay was equally as good. The location is unbelievable, it is so close to all the major sites you want to see. Not that breakfast was not excellent the first time, they added apple tarts and a new coffee machine. Unlike the cheaper Nestlé machine you see at many hotels this one had a much larger selection of coffee/tea drinks. I am coming back to Evora in the spring and am looking forward to my stay at the Solar!

MouraSuites Hotel is a stunning property with elegant interiors on the prettiest plaza. The rooms and breakfast area are beautifully appointed and access to the monuments and restaurants is very handy. The staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable and in particular Jorge, the concierge, helped us enormously with a hire car problem and we can't thank him enough. This is a very professionally run establishment and I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Evora.

It’s a high level modern hotel close to the center of Evora, the interior are of design and there’s a beautiful pool bar. The room is comfortable, so is the bathroom (despite the reviews about the lavabo dimensions). The breakfast is really large and varied , also if we found that some food like croissant or brioche seemed not so fresh (they we’re quiet dry). There’s a large parking area, so it’s a really comfortable stay if you are travelling by car.

The location and staff at this hotel made it an absolute pleasure to visit. Walking distance to the main square and the Tunnel Bar, and a team full of ideas and suggestions for things to do. I really enjoyed my stay here and in Évora in general. The old and authentic decoration and furniture was a welcome.difference from modern hotels. Bedroom and shared bathrooms were well equipped & very clean! We loved that our room was warm & cosy especially on a freezing night. The staff is quite friendly and the location is very convenient. We could go to the history center on foot and we didn’t have to worry where to park the car. The pool was beautiful and the environment super cool. I’d certainly return ! :)

The hotel is great! Very modern, in an historical city. We loved the pool, the bar and the hotel amenities. The location was great as it was about 10 min walk to all the restaurants . It is just outside the wall that surrounds the old Evora city. Absolute great location. We were able to park in front of the hotel for free, which was great.
