Évora is a beacon of heritage in the heart of rural Portugal. Life is played out among narrow, cobbled streets and whitewashed buildings that provide welcome shade. Most buildings are decorated with blue or yellow trim, giving this laidback city a coherent feel.
Blue tiles adorn the incredible interior of the Misericórdia Church, and the Church of St John the Evangelist also features this typical Alentejo style. The most outlandish is the Church of St Francis where one chapel is created entirely from human bones and skulls.
The Gothic cathedral has a peaceful cloister and next door is Évora Museum with its collection of medieval, Islamic and Roman artefacts. In the large square in front sit remains of the Roman Temple, and Roman bath ruins lie under the town hall.
The Palace of the Dukes of Cadaval has a turret-like tower, similar to those in the city walls. One of Évora’s most impressive monuments – the 16th-century Silver Water Aqueduct – passes right through the walls and used to end in large Praça do Giraldo, the city centre’s main square. Some of its stone arches have been cleverly bricked in to create bars and restaurants.
Booking.com’s accommodation in Évora includes luxury hotels with pools, cheap hostels near the train station and guest houses by the university.

Beautiful place with lovely architecture, good restaurants, cafes, and small shops. Great to wander around. The locals were all very helpful. We also took a couple of trips out (local bus and a private tour) to nearby places of interest.

It is a lovely town - great to wander about.
It is a lovely town - great to wander about. We were glad to be there in November as it was quieter and easy to get around and into restaurants. We had lovely weather too. The food we ate was incredible - Algeria's e Vinho was AMAZING - such good value for incredible food and service. Origins was great too - more expensive but it is in the Michelin Guide. Highly recommend both,

Lovely old city with more to see than expected, we stayed only 1 night, but should have stayed longer. We arrived there easily by train from Lisbon and used a taxi through the town to our hotel. The inner old city is the best to explore on foot, and easily walkable for all the great sites.

This was one of my favorite stops in our tour of Portugal. Loved the history, food, and people, but also really enjoyed the quaintness of this smaller city. Full of charm, and I really enjoyed our time here.

Historic city with a lot of flair. Beautiful views, interesting places to visit, fair price balance both for meals and most gift items. Friendly people. Welcoming atmosphere. Also the Stonehenge of Portugal nearby! Looking forward to the next visit.

Évora is a beautiful ancient city seemingly mostly experienced by day trippers from Lisbon. Staying in the town allowed us to experience the sites before it got too crowded and the authentic off the beaten path town after they leave. Easy drive from Lisbon. Very walkable.

It’s a high level modern hotel close to the center of Evora, the interior are of design and there’s a beautiful pool bar. The room is comfortable, so is the bathroom (despite the reviews about the lavabo dimensions). The breakfast is really large and varied , also if we found that some food like croissant or brioche seemed not so fresh (they we’re quiet dry). There’s a large parking area, so it’s a really comfortable stay if you are travelling by car.
This hotel is stunning. It is a great mix of old world charm with designer modern. We loved the high ceilings and very generous rooms. The location is great. The pool area and spa area lovely. It definitely made our Evora stay memorable. The underground parking is convenient - although be sure to enter the carpark (just to the left) before the main hotel entrance otherwise it's a long drive back to it. We would absolutely stay again!
A short walk from the station and right outside the walls of the old city. This is a new modern comfortable and exceptionally clean hotel. The breakfast was to a great standard and a broad selection of food. It was an excellent base to see Evora and a great stay.
The boutique hotel offered comfortable common areas inside the hotel and outside to relax, play board games or work on the computer. The location was ideal for exploring the town of Évora. The breakfast included made-to-order eggs.
The hotel is in a great location, central to Evora sights. We loved the hotel style, very high end. The morning breakfast was exceptional and also in a beautiful setting. Hotel staff were courteous and helpful.
