I have always liked Gunnison. It's great if you are an active outdoors person. Blue Mesa has amazing fishing. Good hunting nearby. Great mountain biking in and around Gunnison. The river is excellent fishing also. The town is big enough to have everything you might need, but still a cozy small town.

Great little city in a beautiful setting.
Great little city in a beautiful setting. Could definintely spend more time there exploring, but it was just a stop on the way to our destination near Grand Junction. Ate at The Palisades (recommended by clerk) and food was good. Driving around, there seem to be many options for a variety of tastes (BBQ, Mexican, American, etc).

We like the restaurant The Old Miners Steakhouse, had the Prime rib, atmosphere was great and service very good. The town was better that I expected, wide streets, clean everywhere, nice looking town, had more stores that expected.

We didn't have much time to spend in Gunnison, but used the Post Office there and enjoyed walking down side streets to view the architecture. I had been in Gunnison many years ago and found it to be a friendly small town with interesting shops and good restaurants. We ate dinner at an excellent Chinese restaurant on Main Street that had large servings

Gunnison is a nice little Colorado town, however, since it is a college town, we were surprised that all the coffee shops, (including Starbucks!) were all closed by 7 pm. We only stayed one night and for convenience sake we just ate a McDonalds. Gunnison is small so navigating the town was easy, especially with GPS. The area is very scenic for folks who love the mountains and if you love to ski, this would be a great place to stay with Crested Butte just a short drive away. Even though it was just a stop on the way home to California, I would probably stay in Gunnison again if the opportunity arose.

Gunnison has so much to do.
Gunnison has so much to do. White water rafting, kayaking, hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking. Close to events at Crested Butte (Free Music Outdoors etc.). Housing is expensive here, so is lodging. Food choices are plentiful and run the gamut of prices.
The service was great with the manager being extremely helpful. We had to cancel the night before due to a snow storm that closed Monarch Pass and were able to get a refund for the night. He also helped with tips like picking up a free shuttle to Crested Butte from across the street. Ideal location just on the edge of town, centrally located to get to Crested Butte within half hour or to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison to explore the areas around there.
The remote location...very quiet, away from highways. Lots of space between you and the neighbors. The site is elevated and provides great views of the Gunnison River Valley and mountains (including the Ragged Mountains to the NW). Nice deck with a table and seating. Trails up the ridge that includes Cranor Ski Area (more views) make for a nice morning run. Lots of windows. Nice cross ventilation in most bed rooms. Fits 12 just fine.
First of all, I have to say, I loved the staff!! So friendly, helpful and courteous!! Breakfast every morning was good and they made sure to keep it stocked until the end!! Our room smelled sooo good when we opened the door and everything was spotless! Super comfy beds too!! I will recommend Rodeway Inn Gunnison, all day everyday!! Thank you!!
Marty and rest of the staff went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. Rooms in the older, motor lodge style hotel were super clean and very comfortable. Beds were great. Out of town a few miles but quiet with a park-like setting. Owners on site and we could tell. We would stay here again over the newer chain hotels in Gunnison.
Did not stay for the breakfast. We liked the spaciousness of the room. However, we thought for a hotel of this class, it was way overpriced, but since we realized that this was generally the case in this area´s market, we resigned ourselves to having to pay that. Never paid this much for a basic hotel before - anywhere!
Great warm breakfast. Very welcome on a cold day in January. Also, the hotel has been tastefully updated. Bed was very comfy. The front desk staff and manager were professional and attentive.
Very comfortable and clean. Its an easy walk into town and actually provides a good hot breakfast.
The hotel also provides guest laundry facilities, a real bonus if you’re on a toad trip.
The staff was phenomenal! The breakfast was cute and simple, which matched the place. Loved that it was dog friendly. Loved meeting the furry welcome staff, Dozer and Regie!
The whole hotel was extremely clean and well taken care of. The staff was very helpful and courteous the room was well stocked and spotless.
Thanks Gary
