The breakfast was delicious - the rooftop dining room looked out to the city, and the Acropolis and Parthenon and St. George’s church on top of a mountain on the other side. Just gorgeous day or night.
Very close to restaurants and shopping. We needed another suitcase for souvenirs and got one within walking distance.

With the Acropolis as the jewel in the archaeological crown of Athens, this city is full of history while embracing the future. Take a stroll back in time through the neoclassical streets of the Plaka, where you'll find tavernas serving tantalizing souvlaki and mousaka, street vendors and live entertainment.
A trip to the Parthenon and the Agora top most lists and can also be appreciated from a distance by walking along the Dionysiou Aeropagitou street, which is away from the busy crowds of the city center.
The changing of the guard occurs every hour on the famous Syntagma Square. From here, Ermou Street provides shopaholics with a fashionable retail sanctuary. The upscale districts Kolonaki and Kifisia are also bursting with fancy boutiques, galleries and bars.
Athens has some of the finest museums in the world, such as the National Archaeological, Acropolis and Benaki Museums. From Athens International Airport to the Port of Piraeus, this is a city bustling with the old and new. On Booking.com you can find everything from modern hotels to a room in a classical building.

Go to Monastiraki, there are many hosts that can offer a room with a view to the Parthenon and hot showers! For the same price one would rent you a basement without hot water and toilets inside the showers (still crying over the 216 euros I wasted on that).

Most activities are good to enjoy solo- do book one of the 8am Acropolis tours and I also did 2 excellent day trips with Key Tours to the Peloponnese and 3 islands. I stayed near Sygrou-Fix metro station and it was really easy to get around, walking. I'm a fit 71 yo. The metro link to the airport is very do-able, though may be challenging in peak hours or if you've arrived tired from a long flight. Avoid the peak season, which seems to start around mid May. Great for street life and the archeological and cultural heritage.

Athens is a city with deep historical roots, but it may not be the best destination for solo travelers. Many streets are dirty, poorly maintained, and filled with people experiencing homelessness, which can feel overwhelming and unsafe—especially after 11 p.m. The buildings are mostly old and unplanned, which sadly takes away from the beauty of the city's heritage.
While the Acropolis and other archaeological sites are iconic, the entrance fees are quite high, and the Acropolis Museum itself has surprisingly little to offer. The metro system is outdated, crowded, and often smelly, which adds to the general discomfort of getting around.
In short, while Athens holds great historical significance, the city’s infrastructure and atmosphere may not live up to the expectations of many modern travelers—especially those exploring alone.

My two-night visit to Athens was purely to see the Acropolis, and I wasn't disappointed. The bonus was the great food and choice of tavernas, all within easy distance of my hotel, which was centrally located beside Monastiraki Square. Nightlife, ie dining experience, was wonderful.

This was our third time in Athens, and we’ll be back! After visiting the main attractions, we now explore the outskirts and nearby sites. Athens is a great base for trips around central Greece, from Nafplio to Delphi, which we traveled to by KTEL buses, though renting a car is also an option. You can even combine your stay with a few days in Thessaloniki by train or plane. The food in Athens is fantastic – you must try our favorite combo: pork souvlaki, tzatziki, and ouzo!

2 to 3 full days would be actually good enough to see almost everything.
We did booked Acropolis in Advance. Then next day the Museum of Acropolis. But the city is more about eating, drinking and going out. We enjoyed bars and cafes in Psyri district. And had a great dinner at the Food square of Plaka. If you want to go fancier and eat great seafood I could definitely recommend the Milos Restaurant, the sea bass in salt crust there was just amazing.

This is an outstanding hotel in every way. The staff are friendly, helpful, thoughtful and caring. The breakfast is fresh, generous and delicious with wonderful options. The room is very comfortable, with thoughtful attention to detail, fabulous art and lots of reading material about Athens and Greece. The location is perfect for transportation and the city centre. Great value overall. We highly recommend this hotel and plan to return again soon.
Aris and his team are without doubt the friendliest and most hospitable Hotel operators I have ever met. It felt like home. They greeted us with warmth at all times of the day and were always on hand to share recommendations for Athens and wider around Greece, or to simply chat and enjoy a drink at reception. We met other travellers and enjoyed our stay immeasurably.
Excellent location in Athens. We were close to many restaurants, shopping, Bazaar supermarkets (groceries, wine, beer), and, of course, all the best attractions in the Syntagma, Plaka and Monastiraki neighborhoods. It was easy walking to everything, and the Syntagma station to and from the airport was just about 3 blocks away.
The hotel room was lovely and confortable, dinner was excellent and breakfast amazingly great. The hotel staff were nice, hospitable, very helpful and made their best to make you feel at home away from home. Greece has an excellent tradition of hospitality and Amalia hotel gets a top score in that respect.
