A Tempting Tuscan Sun
San Gimignano, with the Italian sun glistening intently on its 14 remaining towers, cuts a dramatic figure from its position high on a Tuscan hill overlooking vineyards. A trip to Tuscany must include San Gimignano! Highly recommend for its medieval charm, spectacular views and delicious food. It really feels like stepping back in time. It’s not public transport accessible and if you have limited time, hiring a car is the best way to go. Ample public parking is available as well.
We visited around late October so it wasn’t too busy compared to summer time and the weather was perfectly warm during the day and mild around dinner time. Light jacket only. It’s a photographer’s delight as there’s always a scenic opportunity as we turn a corner.
From SG we drove to Siena, another stunning city close by and not to miss! For lunch we were lucky enough to stumble upon a small multi-Routard recommended resto and it seriously did not disappoint. It’s called Osteria Nonna Gina di Lella e Dado. Some of the best pasta we’ve had in Emilia Romagna is here.
Also don’t miss the gelato at Gelateria Dondoli, they’ve won multiple awards and offer unique gelato flavours you really have to try.

If you’re in Tuscany, you have to visit San Giminiano.
If you’re in Tuscany, you have to visit San Giminiano. The city centre has a very special architecture and a lot of small shops and wineries. It’s the perfect place to spend a few days with your spouse. We had a wine tasting at Marronaia Winery, close to the city and we enjoyed it, but next time I would also try another winery, like Tenuta Torciano, which we tried a few months earlier. We ate a fantastic meal at ristorante Fuoriluogo, which I recommend strongly. I recommend staying as close as possible to the city, it’s a nice feeling that you can walk while admiring the sights.

I can't describe it, you have to be there, you have to see this miracle.
I recommend parking lots number 3 and 4, there is always space, the price is reasonable and you only have to walk for a few minutes, and there is also an elevator.

It is one of the most unique destinations in all of Europe.
It is one of the most unique destinations in all of Europe. San Gimignano is a must-visit when in Tuscany. Its medieval appearance whisks you back in time and one can easily transform the tourists to locals bringing their food to market. High-quality restaurants and a world-champion gelateria, what is not to fall in love with. Leave your healed shoes at home and wear comfortable footwear as the streets, side streets and shops are far from smooth, but this is just part of the experience

You can explore the Torre Grossa and a couple of other sites with one pass, there's excellent pasta (you will smell the ragù while you explore in the afternoon!) and aperitivi for just a few euros, plenty of places to cool off with gelato, and the view over Tuscany from the Torre and the Rocca are spectacular.
The town in miniature is also worth your time. And be sure to have a glass of Vernaccia, the local white wine!
Our flight delay into Italy caused us to lose our reserved car. We were informed there's a car shortage so our car was given away and almost no taxi was available either. While lost and exhausted, the kind and generous owner saved us many times for impromptu rides and wonderful care. I told my husband that it felt like you can be lost in Italy and still amongst family. This is so true of this divine Agriturismo. I am already on planning on bringing the entire family back. Grazie Mila.
Fattoria is the most gorgeous property we stayed at in Italy! the whole area is so scenic & the accomodation is absolutely perfect with the best outlook over San Gim. the staff were incredible, the breakfast & hospitality was outstanding! also we dined there & had wine by the pool on 2 out of three nights, highly recommend the chef is amazing, mixing local ingredients with delicious combinations. we wished we stayed longer!
After a hectic week in Rome, Country House Tenuta Fornacelle was just the right place for us to relax in the beautiful Tuscan countryside. Roberta is a wonderful host, very welcoming and attentive to any of your needs. Make sure to try some of their white and red wines and olive oil produced on site!
Roberta gave us a tip for a nearby restaurant that turned out to be one of the best dining experience we had in Italy.
The hotel located not far from San Gimignano old town, only few minutes by car and surrounded by beautiful vineyard and olive garden. Just perfect as a sanctuary and to explore San Gimignano. The hotel have private parking space, swimming pool, beautiful garden and delicious breakfast. All facilities are clean and shiny.
One other thing, the staff very helpfull, 5 star for their services👍.
Manfredi is the best host we met in all of our month vacation in Italy.
He welcomed us with an explanation of the area and where we should go (first we had in Italy, in the 3 weeks before none of the hotels even cared).
The room was very clean with a nice view.
The breakfast outside was great and fresh with a beautiful view.
Overall really great experience.
Everything! Picturesque property with the nicest staff and unbelievable food. Pedro and Diego have created something special in the hills just outside San Gimignano. Our stay here was easily the best part of our 2 weeks in Italy, topped off by a cooking class with Andrea on the terrace. It was a truly magical experience.
If you have the time I absolutely recommend staying overnight in San Gimignano, rather than just doing a day trip. The location of the hotel was perfect, especially for arrival by car as easy walk from parking. The history of the hotel building was a bonus. It's proximity to the heart of the town was great.
Everything about this place is special (e.g., location, breakfast, yard, etc.). But what makes this establishment truly extraordinary is the warmth and kindness of the hosts: Mauro, Almerinta, and the immensely charming Francesca. Hospitality unmatched in my month-long travel throughout Italy.
The property is in an idyllic location set in the countryside of Tuscany near San Gimignano (10 min drive). The property was lovely! The apartment was immaculate and charming. The kitchen had all the essentials for our group of 4 adults, and the bathroom was modern and shower very nice!
exquisite design detail; luxury at every turn; wonderful attentive yet discreet service; food was some of the best I've eaten in Italy and the presentation was Michelin started.
overall it is peaceful, understated, romantic and personifies what a luxury boutique hotel should be
San Gimignano is a place to see after the tour parties have departed and before they arrive next morning. La Cisterna is a beautifully located hotel in which to base yourself. Great restaurant with fine views, likewise excellent breakfast in a dining room with a view.
This was the best place we stayed at during our trip through Italy. Everything was fantastic and they were incredible hosts. My partner is a coeliac and they prepared separate gluten free food for her breakfast and dinner.
Excellent location, overviewing the vineyards. You can watch the suns goes down, while sipping a glass of wine in the garden. Very friendly staff, exceptional breakfast - best "corneto"(croissant) eaten in Italy.
Great staff. Beautiful, and peaceful hotel. Perfect location just outside San Gimignano. This was our second year in a row at La Collegiata and we will be coming back for sure.
The hosts are amazing and super nice! the place is perfect!!! beautiful and clean! there are no such places in Italy. it was a pleasure and we will definitely recommend it.
Stayed a number of times, great location, very clean, loved our room, great food and the best friendly staff you can have in Italy.
