I was upgraded to a bigger room and I had my own outside seating area. Excellent and plenty of choices of food for breakfast. The restaurant also served delicious lunch and dinner. The location was safe and quiet. Security on property. Friendly owners and staff. The back up generator really helped when the whole Zanzibar lost power for several hours.

the Hotel is really tiny! (5 rooms total) Which is nice, personnel knows you, knows what you like and you know them as well. Short way to breakfast, to the pool or reception. Staff is extremely friendly, helpful and supporting. If you need something, there is always somebody to help.

Best thing about hotel is that you can ask whatever you want and 99% of your wishes come true.
As European I like some things made differently as they are in Africa but if you ask the hotel staff makes it!
As example I can say they make awsome tuna stakes if you ask them! And they also add rum to your coconut if you ask. So the main tip is - ASK!
Moreover, as experienced travelwr I have been reading reviews about the hotel and two things were very disturbing (a) that the selection of food os not very rich; and (b) that the tides make the sea go away for a far far way.
To tackle that I shall say that (a) food is good and changes everyday, so even on 11 night stay you will have a varios optios to choose from (especialy if you are into sea food); (b) tides are constant but there was no day with out sea at your foot steps to the pool, meaning that some times you have to wait half a day before sea comes back but it eventualy does.

I loved the colour, clarity and temperature of the water.
I loved the colour, clarity and temperature of the water. The sand was so soft and almost white. I didn't like the hassle on the beach though. It was easier to stay at the hotel to avoid it. But that's not why you visit another country!

Quiet part of the island with beach among the nicest.
Quiet part of the island with beach among the nicest. That meant fewer people and tranquility which was what I was looking for during that trip. The hotel was also exactly what I need. All the facilities (gym, massage, sports activities) + excellent food at a reasonable cost. And Fatma the day manager was great. A wonderful person and soul

The restaurant and other staff were extremely courteous and helpful in all circumstances.
The Food and Beverager Manager Zablon is a kind and focused man, results oriented.
The hotel is a true gem. It is on the southern part of Kiwengwa village, which is very calm and has a beautiful beach right in front. The property has a very nice beach area with hammocks, loungers and mattresses where you can hang out at the beach the whole day.
The food was exceptional, portion size and taste wise. And not to forget the staff, who were all very kind, attentive and made sure we enjoyed our stay. We fully recommend staying at this hotel in this beautiful hidden gem part of the island.
Poa Poa is very small and intimate, which creates a homely and relaxed atmosphere. The staff work very hard to provide a spotless and cosy environment just steps from the beautiful beach. The bungalows are discreet and harmonious, and the pool is a good size for a small hotel. Meals are served in the lovely beach bar with good food and occasional live music. Zanzibar is not a cheap destination but we loved the fact that Poa Poa has a sense of intimacy and style that makes it a special place to stay.
The attention to detail at this boutique hotel was amazing. Everything is very nicely done, with local décor and furniture that adds the local feel to your stay. Food in the evening and at the pool was great and felt like fine-dinning experience. Portions are not big, bit if you go with full set (soup, starter, main, dessert) then it is more than enough even for a big eaters. Pool and the views were fantastic! Greetings to Charles at he pool bar and a shout out to Latvian/British/Finish GM! :)
I think it is the first time that I give a hotel 10/10 and full in every category. This little boutique beach hotel is a hidden paradise in Kiwenga on the east coast of Sansibar. The owners are very friendly, make everything possible and created their own little home. There are only a few rooms, so it is very exclusive. Breakfast was a selection of different elements and it was delicious. So, if you want to leave the stress behind and simply relax: go for Boho Boutique.
Zanbluu is a truly fantastic hotel on the East coast of Zanzibar. The pool area is beautifully designed, really spacious and the pool was fantastic. Our lodge was also amazing - exactly as on the pictures with lovely view to the sea. The food was excellent - dinner menu was particularly good which changed every day. Overall we were really happy with our stay - if you fancy switching off and not doing much (other than sunbathing) this is the perfect place for you.
Excellent property and Alice from the Zanzibar Houses Office management was very easy to deal with. Suleyman was accessible throughout the stay and Sule (the stay-in security guy) was also respectful of our requests for privacy as a family. Rahmah the cleaning lady was amazing and the property was super clean everyday. Chef was also accommodating of our requests and made some excellent pancakes. If you like sunsets, it is a dream come true! :-)
My stay was great, I had the peace and quiet I was looking for. I purposely choose an intimate hotel as I don’t like crowded places. Friendly staff, really good cleaning service, restaurant food is very good. Was really happy with the private beach access that brought a luxurious aspect to my stay in Zanzibar.
As a solo traveler, I felt safe in the room and hotel itself.
If I ever go back in Zanzibar, I would probably stay at Imara again.
It was our first trip to Zanzibar and we've fallen in love with this beautiful island and this little paradise called 'Zanzibella'. Super friendly staff helped me organized amazing suprise for my fiancee. It's not often when I can give 10/10 for food quality, hotel restaurant is outstanding! First trip to Africa was safe and enjoyable thanks to this lovely people. Thank you and I hope see you!

The hotel is very nice, starting from the reception to the beach, the entire facility is incredible. loved their food, room design, beach area and the pool when we can enjoy our food and beverages. don’t miss the massage as you can have it outdoor and overlooking to the beach. I would like Marta the manager and the entire staff there. love ❤️
I stayed in la base for 5 and the experience has been great. The place is really clean and comfortable. The restaurant is located right in front of the beach so you'll definitely have a relaxing time while enjoying your meal and drinks. Thanks to the hosts Cris and Luca. They were really cool. This place is a must when you're in kiwengwa.
The resort has an amazing private beach and the ocean in Kiwengwa is beautiful. My room had the perfect ocean view.
Food was absolutely delicious, the local chefs did a very good job.
I also had a massage.. the lady has magic hands.
The owners are very friendly and they make sure you are happy with everything.
Nice location, quiet and very clean. The best boutique hotel we booked in Zanzibar.
The rooms are affordable for the quality and the private beach is perfect, many sun beds and security. We liked the restaurant and the breakfast surprised us for Zanzibar standards. The staff was very nice and helpful.
Not sure where to start...OUR STAY WAS MORE THAN AMAZING.. THE BEACH IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WE HAVE SEEN IN ZANZIBAR... WHITE SANDS AMAZING FOOD.. OUTSTANDING BREAKFAST AND WARM HEARTED ATTENTIVE STAFF.. I WILL DEFINETLY BE COMING BACK. THANK U IMARA FOR THIS EXPERIENCE. FOOODIS A MUST.
Very calm atmosphere. I felt like at home, very helpful staff, it felt very secure and relaxing.
The manager was very helpful and all the staff accommodating. I would recommend this hotel to everyone and would go back myself. This is exactly the kind of hotel that I expected in Zanzibar.
Great location, approx 1hr from Zanzibar airport, $50 oneway transport, great communication thru "Whats App", driver was kind and respectful. Resort is really nice with gorgeous grounds, clean pools.
The resort mostly has a European clientele.
Workers are kind and helpful
August 2023:
The room was well decorated and every day housekeeping was doing the job perfectly.
Octopus carpaccio was the best and softest,
the seafood in general was very fresh in Zanzibar.
We had our good time at Z-Lodge hotel
Beautiful Resort on one of the best beaches in Zanzibar. Phillipo is a great manager, welcomed us, upgraded our rooms for us and offered us all inclusive for an additional fee which we accepted.
Really nicely presented resort that tries hard with activity throughout day and night. As you see through out Zanzibar, local staff are so nice. Beach is beautiful and lovely to walk down.
