Bali’s oldest beach resort retains its reputation as a glamorous alternative to nearby Kuta. The coastline of Sanur has a long stretch of white sand lined with restaurants and bars. It is tailor made for chic clientele or families wanting to relax in an exclusive resort or villa without the need to party into the wee hours.
Sanur is also a popular day trip destination for tourists staying in Kuta looking to do some water sports. There are many companies offering diving along its submerged outer reef, jet skiing on top of its blue waters or paragliding in the cool breezes above this ocean paradise.
The shoreline features a cycle path that is also perfect for walking and jogging. At its very northern tip is the ferry terminal that offers boat trips to Nusa Lembongan, a small island off the southeast coast of Bali that is famous for its laid-back atmosphere.
Sanur has its fair share of markets providing an impressive range of artistic handicrafts such as wood carvings and batik paintings. Best of these are the Sindhu Market and the daytime beachfront market.

Sanur is a lovely area for families, singles and retirees alike. There are some great cafes, restaurants and bars along Jalan Danau Tamblingan (the main road through Sanur). The road is long so if walking is not your thing you can always pick up a Bluebird taxi (on meter). It's also easy walking distance to Karang Beach from the main road, where you'll find more bars and eating places along the beach. You can also hire bicycles at Karang Beach to ride along the footpath. There's the new ICON Shopping Mall (a must visit if you've never been there). we have been coming to Sanur for several years and find it a quieter area of Bali. But there are still plenty of restaurants and bars around the area to choose from. Road not too busy to cross (compared to Ubud) but pavements can be a challenge to navigate with the potholes and obstructions (vehicles or building materials occasionally blocking the path). Meals were great at the restaurant, although there were many eateries in walking distance if we had wanted to go. Sanur is the ideal location for a vacation to Bali. It is a nice uncluttered village with a local flavour, as well as all the necessary amenities for an enjoyable and safe stay. The new Icon mall is nice and the Bali International Hospital provides some confidence should you have healthcare concerns. There are hotels to suit every travellers' pocket. There is also the beach which is often clean and calm. It is easy to access the main tourist destinations in Ubud as well as Uluwatu. So many options along beachfront, new shopping centre amazing and you can hire bikes book trips and bargain with the at time "pushy" vendors and then become best friends. Be wary of the initial ridiculously overpriced offers such as for hair braids as they seem to triple up price to start!
