The Legend of the West
San Antonio in Texas is home to 2 of the state’s top attractions: The Alamo and the Riverwalk. One of the city’s former Spanish missions, the Alamo was the site of a deadly battle that cost folk hero Davy Crockett his life. The other remaining missions - Concepcion, San Jose, San Juan, and Espada with its aqueduct - are dotted around the city. The attractive Spanish Governor’s Palace also remains.
The San Antonio River runs right through the city, below street level. Known as the Riverwalk, its banks have been cleverly developed to house riverfront restaurants, bars and shops, and are spectacularly lit for Christmas. There are several San Antonio hotels by the Riverwalk which are also close to the Rivercenter Mall, the city’s biggest shopping center, while La Villita artisan village has more traditional crafts.
Across the road in Hemisfair is the Tower of the Americas, a tall observation tower with a revolving restaurant overlooking the Alamodome, a huge sports and convention venue, home to the annual Alamo Bowl collegiate football game. On the outskirts of the city are Sea World and Six Flags Fiesta Texas. The city also hosts the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, one of the country’s biggest Western events.

I went for an event, so we only got to stay 1 night but I've been in the past 2 times for vacations. All I can say is plan your visit, the worst thing is sitting around deciding on what to do. Also the riverwalk was a waste for us because we spent $ on parking and didn't do anything. We went around 7-8pm so a lot of people were drinking and that's not for us. So if you go there have a plan because we didn't really know what all to do before the zoo and ot being a tourist location. Things are expensive. Though I can say, from the past 2 times in my life of going I recommend taking some tours, going to the drive through safari and natural Bridge caverns, SeaWorld, and definitely visit a mall or 2. My kids and I enjoyed walking around the Historic Market Square and seeing all of the colorful items for sale. Many of the products I saw- especially clothing- were authentic, "made in Mexico" items. We also enjoyed a good "stick-to-your-ribs" meal at Good Time Charlie's. We are also glad that we took a Go Rio boat tour along the Riverwalk to learn more about the history of the area; our tour guide was very informative and entertaining. This hotel is booked for attending a conference in San Antonio. It offers great value for money and is located about a 15-minute walk from the Henry B. González Convention Center, where the conference is being held. The hotel environment is very pleasant, the rooms are well-equipped, and the breakfast is excellent. There is also a beautiful swimming pool. It takes only about 20 minutes to get to the airport, and across the street from the hotel, there is a lively shopping market full of Mexican charm.
