Close to shops and the many eateries at The Strand.
Close to shops and the many eateries at The Strand. Bus stop out the front. Flat area for easy walking. Easy to find our way around by car. Hervey Range Lookout and Tea Rooms is a must do, quite a surprise. Magnetic Island was amazing, definitely need a whole day for exploring.

Townsville is a fantastic destination with a relaxed coastal vibe, beautiful weather, and plenty to see and do. The Strand is a highlight — perfect for walking, dining, and enjoying ocean views. There are great cafes, easy access to Magnetic Island, and everything feels close and convenient. A really enjoyable place to visit and unwind.

Picnic Bay is in my opinion, the prettiest Bay on Magnetic Island. With buses running so regularly (50c fares; $1 for the day) you could hop on and travel to many other parts of the Island without any difficulty.
The swimming enclosure at Picnic Bay is a popular spot for people to swim and the jetty, a very popular spot for visitors and locals to fish off.
There are a number of restaurants as well and a Brewery that is a hit with locals of visitors.
The Picnic Bay Hotel is large and has TAB facilities as well. We found the prices at the hotel were quite expensive for drinks and food. We bought a take away meal on leaving and it was large and very yummy.

The town has all sorts of amenities that you would need.
The town has all sorts of amenities that you would need. It is central to the island, so getting to the other towns and areas from there is very easy. There is a huge range of types of accommodations you can get for your stay; from high end water front resort to container homes to hostels. Being where the ferry drops you off at, it is also nice to not have to carry your bags around too far!

North ward has a great vibe and feels safe.
North ward has a great vibe and feels safe. Lots of people about without being too crowded, lots of great eat places to chose from ( can recommend the Asian Thai Fusion restaurant for dinner - yum - and the Bakehouse on Eyre Street for brunch ), beautiful views out to the bay, lovely waterfront walks/ cycling, and several swimming pools within walking distance. Almost everything is within easy walking distance.

Beautiful location, amazing swimming area sectioned off for safe beach swimming. Great restaurants, cafe and brewery. The pub is great for family lunch and dinners. The Italian Restaurant provides authentic Italian food which you can have bought into the brewery while tasting some of the local beers. The cafe does amazing coffee, breakfast and lunch with great service.

Magnetic Island is a fantastic location.
Magnetic Island is a fantastic location. Off the mainland and the busy city of Townsville. Great swimming and snorkeling. Various restaurants, pubs and eateries are all casual. Plenty of cars to rent. Lots of adventures, walks and beaches. Go out of stingers season - November to April.

its on the beachfront so it can get quite busy, but at night the noise was not noticible from my lodgings

Seeing Family and friends is always the highlight of our Townsville stay.
We were in town to attend a funeral but enjoyed 2 free days either side of that just catching up with family. Particularly enjoyed the Castle Hill goat track walk. Not an easy walk, but you are rewarded with a wonderful view of Magnetic and other surrounding Islands.
