Pescara is the largest city on the Adriatic coast between Ravenna and Bari. It makes a good base for exploring the many beautiful destinations on the Adriatic coast. It also has a wonderful beach of its own, and is definitely bicycle friendly. It is the railway and airport of for the central part of the Adriatic coast.
Pescara is really 2 towns separated by the river. The new town contains hotels, shopping and the beach. The old town contains historical buildings, the farmers market and more shopping. In addition to the town, there are castles and wineries in the outlying areas and the tours and tastings are amazing. We only had a day of touring but it lasted from 9am until 1:30am the next morning! We should have allowed much more time to explore this beautiful area. A 'must-do' when visiting is dinner at a Trabucco - set price (50 euro for each of us) and 10 courses of seafood in a rustic place over the Adriatic Sea - priceless memory! We found our guide on Abruzzo-Link and Angelo Brigante was phenomenal! Even though this area is not widely publicized, it is a gem along the eastern coast.
We ate at a fantastic restaurant called Regina Elena, right around the corner from our hotel - beautiful place with delicious food - staff was super friendly and helpful, and they brought us a complimentary welcome drink and gourmet appetizer - I highly recommend it
Pescara is the new "home of my heart" and I cannot wait to return, hopefully in 2017! Modern city, friendly and helpful people in shops and cafes. Very easy to get around walking and at main transportation station are trains, local and regional buses and cabs. Shops of all kinds and many, many cafes to chose from. I miss being there very much!
Very friendly and welcoming people although the personnel manning the ticketing office at the bus station could do (much) better. I liked the beach and the roofed market. Food was great too in all eateries. The Museo delle gente d'Abruzzo was worth visiting. Not much more caught my eye in terms of what to see/do, maybe better signage and promotion of tourist attractions could help. Defo too much graffiti and in certain areas, cleanliness could be improved.
Pescara is a beaming, full of life port city. I come back time after time for the beach, restaurants, and shopping. Being from a big city I can appreciate what it has to offer in its own very Italian way! It's a great place to shop, dine, and relax!
