Old Centrum Bucharest

“Great value for money, possibly the cheapest option to get a private room so close to the center. Location is great, very close to the old town and beside a lovely park, and walking distance from the train station. Manager was helpful and nice. This is a good budget option if you're not too fussy about cleanliness.”

Liad Hotel

“Liad hotel is a great option for low budget travelling in Bucharest. Location is the best you can ask for: two minutes walk from the metro, 5 minutes from the old town, which is the pretty and touristic part of town, and in general - in the very center of everything. Turning right when getting out of the hotel and walking one minute, there is a boardgame pub with cheap beer and friendly staff, in which we spent most of our evenings. A great choice for couples and groups with relatively low budget.”

The Midland Hostel

“The staff! Particularly Anca is probably the best and kindest receptionist/host I've ever met, but the rest were also helpful and friendly. Obviously this isn't the most luxurious place, but it's one of the cheapest and it has everything a budget traveller may need, plus the best atmosphere imaginable. Can't ask for much more, really.”

Describe your best tip for traveling cheap in Bucharest.

Try Taxis most journeys in the city will only cost you a pound or two, beware of buses your ticket quite easily registers two journeys when in fact you've done 1 then you get a whopping fine because you still think you have another journey on your ticket, Beware at Gara de Nord they purposely keep the ticket office shut to catch you out on the Bus and you can't argue with the thugs they employ as inspectors.
The possibilities for eating out are endless and very reasonable so look at all options and move away from old town area which are pricey. Visit the larger shopping malls which are reasonable and varied to eat in. Avoid taxis. Metro very cheap and safe
Walk and shop around
Street food a real bargain - covrigi(pretzels) 2 or 3 per Euro in many varieties good pizza, cheap espresso
