We absolutely loved Los Cerros. The service was second to none - all the staff were so friendly and attentive plus there were unexpected added extras like a welcome drink, the opportunity to talk to a local about the different hikes and get some advice, and also a sommelier!! The room itself was also fantastic...waking up to a view of the valley is something we will not forget and the jacuzzi bath after a long day hiking was much needed!! Finally, the breakfast was really tasty - after 2.5 weeks of travelling we were getting slightly tired of the buffet breakfasts but Los Cerros had us looking forward to breakfast again! A lot of fresh and different options, plus the made to order omelettes were delicious!

Los Cerros del Chaltén Boutique Hotel, Chalten Suites Hotel, and Fitz Roy Hostería de Montaña - El Chaltén got great room view-related reviews from travelers in El Chalten.
El Chalten is a great place to unwind and relax. It's a small town surrounded by beautiful mountains and landscapes it's truly one of a kind place in the world and it definitely should be on everyone's bucket list.
Small place with a bit of charm but be weary it's expensive there. Good thing there's many free hiking opportunities. Despite being peak season we were unlucky with bad weather so would recommend going for long enough to have a few full days in case of bad weather. Quite a few of the walks require a full day too. The bus to and from El Calafate are great, comfy and you can arrive early or late.
There is a range of hiking options -- sure, you can head up into the mountains for well-known 8-11 hour hikes, but we did one that was 3 hours and another even shorter, and that gave us the good walk and mountain flavor we wanted. Plenty of options for inexpensive, good food and drink. We passed a fun few hours drinking with hikers from around the world at a picnic table outside a bar -- beers were 600 pesos each (less than $2). It's easy to find your way, to find a place to pack a lunch for you, to do your laundry. No car is needed there: I recommend you take a bus from El Calafate.
This is my third trip to El Chalten. I really love this place for its unique landscapes, clean air, many options for hiking and photography. But this time, my experience was not so great: the number of tourists exceeds all conceivable norms, crowds on the trails, overcrowded and overpriced hotels and restaurants with poor service. If possible, avoid the high season, choose spring or autumn.
El Chalten offers fantastic hiking and views for people who are quite fit and very outdoors-oriented. The trails are in excellent condition, so well maintained. beautiful views everywhere on the hike we did. It is a town mostly with people under age 35 enjoying the Fitz Roy mountain area. There isn't any other reason to visit this city, the town is scruffy, food mostly burgers and pizza and beer (but we DID have a good meal at one of the few "high end" restaurants in town).
The staff was welcoming, friendly and helpful with our questions. Great location, close to restaurants and trailheads. The upstairs common area has a beautiful view of the mountains. A very relaxing atmosphere. The room did get warm, so opening the window helped. We enjoyed the Oveja Negra restaurant for dinner - great food, good price, nice staff.
