We were in Bregenz on the 23rd and 24th of August 2025. It was a coincidence that the Hafen Fest was on those days, and I cannot judge what is Bregenz usually like. For us there were too many people on the lake shore... but I know some people love this. The best places for me, must-sees: 1. Pfänderbahn (in good weather) 2. It is a beautiful town with many things to see and places to eat. Our Highlight was the Opera on the lake which was amazing. I am 79 years old and my grand daughter is 14 years. Bregenz was a great base to explore the old town and visit St Martin’s Tower telling the history of Bregenz and its chapel with medieval frescoes. There is a round walking tour suggested on a sign post in the old town that takes you past churches and buildings. I used Bregenz to go and visit Liechtenstein with the integrated train and bus service bus Feldkirch. There are are round Lake Constance boat trips as far as a view of Lindau frim the Harbour and two great museums in the Kunsthaus and Voralberg.Guest review byChrisUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Small green town on the lake shore. Very green, lakeside promenade is romantic, at the end of the day, you can see the sun on the water's line, charming. Lakefront restaurants vary; some are a bit kitchy. The summer opera's building is interesting. There is a beach on the lake, mountains around, possibility to rent a boat. Relaxed lakeside town , well kept plenty of restaurants and cafes some a bit tucked away so walk up the side alleys as well as the main streets. The old town on the hill is worth a visit, small but with some old traditional buildings. When in Bregenz walk up to the Upper Town (Oberstadt) as it changes the impression from a rather plain centre and pedestrian streets to a charming village character, overlooking the town with old city walls still intact in most parts, the churches of St Martin and St Gallus, the Martin Tower, beautiful old houses and lots of lush gardens. There are plenty of lakeside promenades, the lakeside is all accessible in Bregenz. I recommend the Seeufer walk towards Hard, where you pass through beautiful countryside and lots of open air spaces to relax and direct access to the lake. As a lovely place to eat, I recommend the restaurant 'Petrus' in the centre. It offers French/Belgian fine cuisine in a modern French Bistro Decor, with gentle music playing in the background. Public transport connections such as buses and trains run frequently to hopp over to the island of Lindau in Germany or into the Swiss town of St Gallen, for example. The outdoor lounge of the hotel is a good place to sit, sip your coffee or drink, especially if you travel with your dog. There is immediately some green area around for walks and to the newly opened Strandbad with a restaurant/cafe.
