The coastline in the vicinity of Albany was beautiful. It was cold at this time of year and a bit wet but we loved it regardless. Look at the Albany top things to do web site to open up a whole lot of things we did not know were at Albany. The ANZAC museum was very well done. Great wineries and craft breweries and distilleries, restaurants needed to be booked ahead but the food offered was great.
The people were very friendly and helpful, we found a very pleasant place for coffee and had a couple of very enjoyable meals at restaurants, the IGA was able to provide all the groceries we needed, we had a quick look at the book shop (should have allocated more time to this) and we thoroughly enjoyed the Museum - so much so that we went back again in the afternoon.
Albany has a great history, its got lots of things to do, great beaches, its the southern terminus of the Bibbulmun track and Munda Biddi mountain bike trail, its got great cafes and restaurants, it's close to Bluff knoll and Denmark and fun fact, Albany has no traffic lights!
Albany has changed over the years and seems to have lost that uniqueness that we remember. Unfortunately Covid has had a devastating impact with a lot of restaurants closed and those that are open have increased their prices considerably as a result. On Tuesday night we tried to find a restaurant that was open and we could only find two Chinese, one Italian (and you needed to book in advance) and one pub, The Earl of Spencer. We chose the latter and were very impressed with the food, service and atmosphere.
Exploring the local national park was a delightwith The Gap, the natural bridge, Misery Beach and Discovery Bay. The Whaling Station, Wildlife park and botanical gardens were very interesting. A drive to Apex Park is a great place to view the sunset. Interesting that little acknowledgement is made of the Aboriginal people in the area, apart from the comment on a sign, that European settlement 'disrupted' their lifestyle (devastated and destroyed would be more accurate).
Fantastic views. Lots of shops for holiday shopping. Many places to see or go to visit. South coast, Whale World,(sighting whales and old whaling factory),, ANZAC Display (wonderful being interactive. Great weather. Museum and Stirling Ranges close to town. Ate at Duo South next to Hilton when not eating at hotel. Plenty of eating places. Albany is a beautiful place to visit.
Albany
cornflakes and toast for breakfast what a joke . WHY is the kitchen not open so guests can at least make them selves a cup of tea or coffee. I was put in room21 which is a STORE room 8x6 with a bed in. I have been in Albany a few days and was at the 6 degrees hotel the night before . The room was 4 times bigger, a double bed, a heater, a fan, a tv, a chair , two towels and a fridge in the room, down the hall I could make myself a tea or coffee tea coffee and milk included ALL THIS FOR THE SAME PRICE AS THE BACKPACKER RIP OFF $89.

What looks like a 70’s motel on the outside was a 5 star hotel on the inside. Such a wonderful surprise. Stayed in the refurbished executive suite and it had everything we needed, was comfortable, clean and luxurious. A separate lounge, bedroom and a balcony. Splurge on the suite - it’s worth it. A good restaurant also. Within walking distance to town.
