United StatesWe had an absolutely wonderful experience here. Belle was the perfect host—thoughtful, welcoming, and full of helpful details that made our stay extra special. The decor has a really fun, eclectic, artsy vibe that still feels warm and homey. The fresh flowers from the garden were a special touch.
Fresh bagels and hot coffee in the morning were such a great touch, and honestly, we just wish we could have stayed longer. Belle also gave fantastic recommendations for wineries, as well as great tips for Adelaide and Kangaroo Island.
Do yourself a favor and book more than one night—you’ll be glad you did!

I do know Penola having lived at Naracoorte previously.
I do know Penola having lived at Naracoorte previously. It’s important to support local communities when travelling to boost business and give the community an incentive to present their town and businesses well. Other relatives of mine stayed in Penola recently and loved the hotel meals .

The town is lovely & historic that you can wander around.
The town is lovely & historic that you can wander around. Coonawarra vineyards & wineries are so close, with great cellar doors & friendly assistance. And Naracoorte Caves were fabulous too.

We came to walk & were not disappointed once on the rail trail. Beautiful tranquil walk through the vineyards.
The town has a few interesting shops to browse in.
Prince of Wales had a good cheap menu.
Great supermarket to pick up assortment of cheese & antipasto.

A gorgeous little country town, steeped in Australian...
A gorgeous little country town, steeped in Australian colonial history - right at the doorstep of the Coonawarra wine region. Spent a full day wandering through the Mary MacKillop Interpretive Centre, Petticoat Lane and local businesses in town; another full day exploring the area (down to Mount Gambier to see the Blue Lake; then on to Port Macdonnell for a great seafood lunch and a stop at Umpherston Sinkhole gardens); then a final day on an organised wine tour through local wineries. Loved every moment.

Loved the township of Penola and Coonawarra in close...
Loved the township of Penola and Coonawarra in close proximity. We visited cafes, Lolly Shop, Farmer George's shop, Petticoat Lane, local Pubs and great Pasta at Ottelia. Would love to spend more time.

We have loved Penola and Petticoat Lane for years, so it was a dream to stay at Mr Wilson’s Cottage. The cottage is delightful and though 1850’s, has lots of modern and personal features. Breakfast provisions and other little
Goodies were generous. It’s a charming little place brimming with history of the first settlers to the area. It’s well worth reading about the history and immersing yourself in it to get a full appreciation of how amazing the European settlers were. We will definitely return.

Bread, milk , butter, vegemite and jams - bacon and local free range eggs and condiments all provided.
It was excellent. Coffee pod machine ,tea , filtered water etc etc .. ( even easter eggs )
A gorgeous historic cottage , close to all amenities in Penola township.
The beds were comfortable . The bedding was contemporary and natural .
The toiletries were 5*****hotel quality .
The host messaged us to ensure we had an easy check in before arrival .
We had a lovely stay here . Thank you .

Superb location within walking distance of Penola Centre.
Nathan ( Owner ) was an excellent host along with other staff @ Reception.
Our travelling group comprised 6 couples where 3 were accommodated in the cabins while the other 3 had powered on-site for own caravans.
Was great to meet & chat with Nathan over the weekend.

An absolutely charming place to stay in Penola. Beautifully set up & styled. We were warmly greeted & very happy with the helpful suggestions from the host. Fresh bagels in the morning were an overwhelming treat. We were very impressed with the food supply for breakfast.
