Perth FAQ: Tips for every trip

Serene as the Swan

Sun-drenched and laidback, Perth is simply a joy to be in. However, the West Australian capital does have tourist attractions, such as the Colonial-era mint, important in the country’s gold industry. East is the WACA, a must-see for cricket fans, and the city is also mad for Aussie Rules football.

The city centre has the historic Government House and Supreme Court, both dwarfed by the ultra-modern skyscrapers a few streets behind. The best skyline view is from leafy King’s Park, near the War Memorial overlooking the Swan River below, named after its black swans. Across the river in Perth Zoo are more native animals including koalas, crocodiles and free-hopping kangaroos.

Boats to the zoo leave from the Barrack Street jetty by a sail-shaped bell tower. Other day trips from Perth include Rottnest Island and Fremantle, down the river in the opposite direction from Perth Airport.

The apartments, B&Bs and hotels in Perth are spread all over this fantastic city, interspersed with restaurants serving specialities such as western rock lobster and chilli mussels. There is also a wealth of bars, many playing the indie music that the city is known for. Local brews from the Swan Brewery and wines from the Swan Valley vineyards round off the evening.

Perth is a beautiful city, lots to do.

Perth is a beautiful city, lots to do. Elizabeth Quay is a beautiful location on the Swann River and close to everything. Good transportation options for seeing the city and travel on the river. Great restaurants for dining out or staying at the hotels.

We stayed a couple of days either side of our trip to the...

We stayed a couple of days either side of our trip to the Pilbara so we could check out the city. I think we walked every street in the CBD and beyond. There is so much to see and do! The transport system is incredible with free CAT buses and plenty of trains. Not only did we do a lot of walking but we caught the train to Fremantle and used it to get to and from the airport. We caught the bus to the zoo and the incredible Kings Park and Botanical Gardens and went back in the evening for Lightscape.

Perth is an amazing city very clean and it has a decent night-life on weekends it has some incredible food although can be over priced in some locations it is easy to get around and the beautiful beaches aren't too far away best of all worlds

Perth is quite literally God's own country.

Perth is quite literally God's own country. The affluence is obvious compared to Sydney. There are excellent arterial and sub-arterial roads and no toll roads. Bus services around the city block are free. The city is exceptionally clean. The housing standard is the highest in Austrlalia with double brick being the most common construction type

This is our fourth consecutive years to Perth.

This is our fourth consecutive years to Perth. It's a great place for beautiful weather, many playgrounds for kids, many parks for walks. We drive to other cities out of Perth. It was peaceful and great for families with kids. The fresh produce was awesome!

Lovely hotel and much closer to the beach than I was expecting! The location is perfect, right in the centre of Perth's Scarborough Beach area. Lovely bar. Fantastic sea view from the balcony. Supermarket, restaurants, beach and shops are all within a very short walking distance. There is also a bus stop very nearby - very practical if you are not travelling by car. Very good breakfast.

We had a pleasant stay at Crowne Plaza Perth. The location is great, especially if you enjoy walking or jogging along the river. Breakfast was very good, especially the menu breakfast options which were freshly prepared. The staff in general were friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay. The hotel itself is comfortable and clean, although the rooms were not very spacious.

We stayed here for 6 nights and had a lovely room with separate tv area. Everything was great. The hotel is very close to the metro underground so easy journey into Perth (2 stops) and also to Fremantle.
