There is plenty to do and see in Rockhampton. Highly recommend the Zoo which has free entry (accepts donations), there is a cafe with affordable food, snacks and drinks, a gift shop, a children’s playground, a war memorial and Japanese garden all within the same area and plenty of free parking. Also recommend a trip up Mount Archer to see the views of the city, we witnessed a beautiful sunset. If you have time visit Yeppoon the singing ship was our favourite.
Considered the Beef Capital of Queensland, if you have business there and wanted to spend some time looking around, I am sure you could find things of interest. But many people use "Rocky" as an overnight stay on the long drive (7-8 hours from Townsville; 7-8 hours from Brisbane) to simply break their journey as there is nothing between Mackay (4 hours north of Rocky) and Rockhampton, to stay overnight which can make it a VERY long and hazardous drive. New travelers to Australia and Queensland need to know that it is 10 hours solid driving from Brisbane to Mackay, and much of is on single carriageway with ever-increasing road works and limited highway speed. Only fools think that you can drive Brisbane to Cairns/Townsville in one day Therefore for everyone's safety the drive from Brisbane to North Queensland need to be taken with one or two nights stopover. So Rocky makes perfect sense for one of those stops.
I would have to say that the parks and gardens, right down to the road dividers and roundabouts, would have to be the most clean and tidiest I’ve seen anywhere that I’ve been in Australia. I travel quite often, but was very impressed with how clean everything was. In all, I really loved my stay. I wish I could have had an extra few days there.
The sunset river cruise is spectacular. The small zoo is worth a visit. The rail museum has a lot of histoty and stories to tell.. a 35 km drive to see the sites of Yepoon is a must as is the fresh fish markets. Thereare plenty of walks up Mt Archer and along the river.
I live here, this was just a nite away. Have stayed here before. Room had on first stay was on the end & was bigger, it also had extra room with extra beds you could pay extra for if needed. Owners friendly & polite. Room very clean, this time room stayed in was in need of some maintenance, aur=con made annoying sounds, vanity had broken handles & only 1 side of bed had power point. Great location, lots of food choices all within walking distance, gardens & buildings could do with attention, wouldn't take much to spruce it up, have better curb appeal. Still worth the stay but 😊
A reasonably quiet town for my 3 day visit. No nightlife as such until friday night. Tourist attractions of zoo, botanical gardens and Riverside walks good. Older building structures are architectualy interesting. Will visit again for some of the sites I missed due to lack of time. Weather was good during my stay
Rockhampton
pet friendly, i didn’t have a pet but now that i know i’ll be back. Hotel is dated and parking is tight, no lights for the pool area which was a let down, pool sparkling clean in the day though. I paid a very good price for a safe comfortable bed and little touches like plates etc really helped. Shower was full pelt and staff were friendly and accomodating. I chose location as i wanted to go to the Aldi. Happy to stay here again as it was great for the price i paid
The room decor was out of this world. The four poster king size bed and Victorian style furniture made this hotel so different from the standard motel for very little difference in price. Located on the fringe of the CBD and a short walk to restaurants and bars. There is a hotel opposite which serves very good steaks. In better times this hotel puts on professional bull riding shows but not at the moment.
Rockhampton
Superb accommodation apartments and there is absolutely nothing to fault with the facilities/location/amenities. The staff are superb, welcoming and very helpful. I always stay here when I am in Rockhampton and thoroughly enjoy it and recommend staying there. The Cafe Bliss has awesome food and fantastic coffee and yummy treats. Perfect start to the day.
I think the room we stayed in was well presented and clean café / restaurant food was good the pool looked after all in all but it as one of the better ones in Rockhampton Which is still generally over charging for its accommodation a hangover form the mining boom days this hotel is normally quite well priced
Location was excellent - very central and within walking distance of several dining options. We enjoyed a view over the Fitzroy River & North Rockhampton - very enjoyable at the end of a day, with a glass of wine on the deck.
