I highly recommend a free walking tour at the beginning of your stay because you learn about the history and present day situation in Sarajevo. Another must is a visit to the Memorial Gallery Srebrenica exhibition. The audio guide and films provide personal experiences of the 1992 conflict and you come away with a better understanding of what it must have been like.

For historic and cultural reasons it is important to visit Sarajevo for Europeans but perhaps also for others. You can see a lot in 1 or 2 days but of course more time allows for understanding Bosnia (and the Western Balkans) which is essential.

Sarajevo is a lovely place to visit, with many interesting things to see and experience- the walks along the canal, the interesting and historical museums, the bustling markets, the great food and beautiful scenery, there is a lot to savour. We wish we had known about the Olympic village high above the valley which you can reach via cable car or by car, and just hike along the various pathways which were originally the ski and bobsled slopes. We discovered this on our last day so couldn’t spend much time there. Would love to go back and explore the area.

What a gorgeous city full of heart and history.

What a gorgeous city full of heart and history. I would highly recommend it. There’s Ottoman history, ex Yugoslavian and the war history, good food and shopping and people are super lovely and friendly. Everything happens around the Old Town which is easy to walk around. The local food is great and you need to try Bosnian coffee and burek and čepavi - there are so many restaurants around town. A highlight was going to Mt Trebević for an excellent view and to see the abandoned bobsled track. And the Tunnel of Hope and the 11.7. Museum about the Srebrenica massacre are musts!

We have been to lots of European and East European cities, but we absolutely loved Sarajevo. We drove down over the mountains from Belgrade. Great atmosphere and so much history, some a little to recent, that made it really interesting. The bars, restaurants and shops in the old town bazaar male for a wonderful time. Tried a hookah for the first time. Lots of traditional food and drank Turkish coffee every day.

The staff were exceptionally kind and helpful. I'd arrived at the hotel late and stressed after finding the accommodation I'd originally booked was not safe. The receptionist kindly took time to help me and poured me a large and welcome gin. Delightful old Austro-Hungarian style small hotel just a short walk across the bridge to the main old part of the city. Basic, no frills, but a lovely breakfast and a very warm welcome. Corner shop close by and very helpful small restaurants round the corner who would even exchange currency.

Mirsad is an exceptional host who provided a wealth of tips for exploring Sarajevo, along with fascinating historical insights about this iconic city. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the apartment, especially the stunning view of the city it offers. The bed was impeccably clean and incredibly comfortable, which made my experience even more enjoyable. In fact, I was so impressed that I immediately rebooked for my last day in Bosnia after my first night there. Highly recommended for solo travelers, couples, and families.

I booked this hotel right away because I booked the wrong date at another hotel. Surprisingly not expensive and includes breakfast. Sabrina, her husband and a lady who works in the morning were really helpful and friendly. Although there is music noise from the bar downstairs at night, I can fall asleep quickly with the window open. Also hotel is in a great Location. It's a super short walk to the main street and the bus stop to the airport.
