Placentia is the 'island' you can drive to, which does give you option to visit inland sites like Cockscomb National Park or see the Red Bank scarlet macaws for the day, if you want a break from the beach, an option you won't have in Caye Caulker or San Pedro. Take the puddle jumper. It is very much worth it. The Naia resort is very laid back. Very serene and private. Very safe and very clean. Not a foodie resort. A very good place for romance and relaxation. We stayed at Itz'Ana on Placencia about 15 minutes north of the village. Itz'Ana was a beautiful place, with gorgeous infinity pool overlooking very nice beach. Our room opened onto the pool deck with a good sized patio with a comfortable daybed outside. Plenty of shade, great breezes. The staff was great. Placencia Village itself has some good restaurants and good grocery stores for provisioning but not much else. Taxi service was good and prices good, but best to ask in advance, "How much will it be to take two people to Rick's restaurant". You'll get a straight answer.
