We were traveling two weeks in Pataginia and of all the hotels we stayed in, we most remember our stay at Ilaia Hotel. Hector at the reception is such a nice and helpful man and we immediately felt welcome! Breakfast is unforgettable, because we were welcomed in the morning by such a nice lady who served us a fantastic breakfast. Everything homemade and fresh and and we could tell everything was prepared with love. The meditative, relaxing music in the background creates a beautiful atmosphere. The room is spacious, cosy with nice lighting, modern and super clean and it is apparent that the hotel owners are very conscious about the environment. Punta Arenas is a small town and we could easily walk to the center - great location. What can I say... Ilaia is a beautiful hotel and our nice experience there will be unforgettable.

Punta Arenas is a wonderful town. It is full of history and is very safe and welcoming to tourists. It is very windy, so wrap up warm, but anyone goin g to southern Chile should pay it a visit (and if you are not going to southern Chile, why not? It is amazing and you should book a visit immediately).
I love history and I love geography and this place has a great combination of both. This southernmost city of Chile lies on the Strait of Magellan, the passage between the Atlantic and the Pacific that allowed humankind to circumnavigate the planet 500 years ago. You must visit the Museo Nao Victoria to appreciate this. And then one must visit the historic houses of the Braun family, the Casa de Sara Braun and the Casa de Mauricio Braun. As you walk through rooms drenched in fine European decor from the late nineteenth century, you can allow yourself to lament how all that richness stands upon yet another genocide of original peoples, and reflect upon how much land in the Americas was unwillingly ceded. Find a place to stay in the center so that you can forget about a car and walk to many good places to eat. For a full meal try the Cordero Asado at Los Ganaderos or the Congrio at Estilo Magallánico, and have a schop of Calafate Austral while you're at it. If you just want a snack have a couple of choripanes at the famous Kiosko Roca, with a banana milk smoothie.
Ther is a big grave yard with lots of history. The city is easy to walk and loads of great restaurants down by the water. We also enjoyed the walkways at the "top" of the city which has amazing views.
There are no many things to do in the city. The tour to see the penguins depend on the winds. One day is enough to walk around and get to know the city. As we could not go to Isla Magdalena we went to the Forte Bulnes trip, half day - it is nice. We also went to the Nau Victoria Museum - you can see the historical Boats related to the city reconstructed - the museum is a little bit far from the city center but it is worth it. We had lunch at Sotito’s - nice place to have a good meal. We also had dinner at the “Tabern” - very nice place in the center of the city. We algo had bad experiences with lunch and dinner on the other day on Esquina 21 and Speechless Patagonia - do not go to those restaurants. We have received recommendation for other 2 restaurants but we could not have dinner without a reservation and was not available anymore - Damiana and La Yegua Loca. In general it is nice to know Magallanes Streit - but the city is not so beautiful and do not have many things to do. One day is enough if you are arriving and need 1 day before going to Torres del Paine!
Just enough tourist stuff to make the visit worthwhile. If you don’t have a car, try to stay near the Plaza de Armas. Most everything you’ll want to see is nearby. You can easily arrange tours to some of the out of town sights like Fort Bulnes.
There is not too much to do in the city itself, it is a good place to go on a tour to the penguins or whales. The cemetery was interesting to visit. So with one or two days you are ok. Can be very windy and rainy.
Punta Arenas
Ana was such a special host! She provided much more than was expected. She was helpful w local restaurant suggestions, was willing to take me to a lookout of the town, and helpful w everything along the stay. Ana had a knack for educating about local Patagonia history. The condo was very clean. It had all the amenities one would need. The views were very nice as well. I would highly recommend Vilanita to anyone looking for a place to stay in Punta Arenas! You will not be disappointed.
Punta Arenas
I very much liked its location at the edge of the Strait of Magellan. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was ample but the bedclothes were kind of funky, not really hotel bedding, more like the blankets you get when staying over at somebody else's house. But comfortable in general. I also liked that it's near the airport, outside of the main city of Punta Arenas, and right next to a natural history museum that's housed in a historic building.
this boutique hotel is absolutely adorable. All the rooms are extremely comfortable, the bathrooms are all remodeled, everything was great. The breakfast is pretty awesome as well as the shared living area. I highly suggest this for anyone who wants to have a special and comfortable stay in Punta Arenas. Pablo and Antonio were so friendly and extremely helpful and so were the rest of the staff.
Punta Arenas
One of our favourite hostels that we've visited! Exceptionally clean and so so cosy. Beds were great and kitchen has everything you might need. Also very central with good WiFi. Sebastian is as great as the other reviews here had mentioned. Super helpful and will go out of his way to make sure you make the most of your time in Punta Arenas! 10/10 would love to go back.
