I would recommend Leticia as a travel hub/starting point. Nothing special about the town itself apart from the location. Although I recommend the Ethnographic Museum there. But you will get a better view and jungle experience in Puerto Nariño, acessible by boat from Leticia. You can take the commercial boat, it will be a lot cheaper than private. It goes 3 times a day and takes 2h to get to Puerto Nariño. Be careful and research what tours cost, they will try to charge as much as possible 😅 Contact the reserves directly, not through an operator, you will most likely get the experience for half the price. Every indigenous guy there is a guide, pick wisely, a good option is through a reserve directly. Walks and attraction in the near reserves are rather touristy and can be underwhelming. For a deeper jungle experience arrange a multi day jungle walk. A lot better place to view monkeys is Mocagúa monkey rescue center Fundacion Maikuchigua, they also have artesanal crafts for sale and a local ethnical museum. You can get there with the commercial boat. Also instead of Flor de Loto, go to Reserva Victoria Regina, the lotuses are also there and you can get an amazing tree tour with info on how the indigenous use them and try some Tarzan moves. If you want to touch a capybara, go to Isla San Antonio de Cacao on the Peru side, just across the river from Puerto Nariño and ask for that. A walking tour with animal viewing and transport was 180 000 pesos for 2 people roughly 3h.
great city to visit the jungle. an amazing experience for those who loves nature. there are many tours to do around the city that will keep you entertain the whole time. if you love fish there are plenty of options.
Leticia is a place to pass through, not hang around. It's small enough that you can see the whole thing in a day, but still remarkably loud and busy. Personal highlights included: - Watching the murmeration of parrots over the main square at dusk. Their numbers are insane and the noise is incredible! I noticed some savvy tourists were watching this from the adjacent church tower, which seems like a great idea. - Visit Brazil. Catch a tuktuk or just walk down the main road. It's a 10 minute walk from the centre. Pay attention though - it's easy to miss the border! - The people here are just as nice as everywhere else in Colombia. - Lots of cool trips departing from the port... including the 'slow boats' to Peru. If you fancy a genuine backpacking experience, google it! Downsides: - Lots of traffic - Poor vegan food options. It seems the two vegan restaurants have closed their doors during COVID. If you're confident enough in your communication skills, most restaurants will happily make you a decent enough vegan paisa, if you explain what you can and can't eat. Otherwise, you'll likely be living off chips.
Leticia is great to visit at least one time for everyone especially for the people that have an adventure spirit. The tour to Puerto Nariño is the best tour and cannot be miss since it pretty much show you the most important of the amazon. Definitely a great vacation spot. I will suggest to make sure to book a hotel on the city because you will be in walking distance of anything you may need including the tours. Staying outside the city has many disadvantages since you will be "trap" on the hotel with nothing close to it. Definitely it needs to be visit. You will have a great experience. Make sure to not rely on the internet there because is extremely bad.
True to be told, Leticia is a city to stay the less possible if you really want to get to know the jungle better. We stayed almost 3 days and 2 nights and thought we could've spent more time even in Puerto Nariño. There are some very nice restaurants and nightlife (which we didn't even try) and you may find plans or activities to do around the "Kilometros" (kilometers). You can also go to Tabatinga, which is Brazil. Follow Trip Advisor restaurants guide, we tried some from there and where really good. And don't miss the amazing arrival of thounsands of birds (think are parakeets) to the main park, Parque Santander, around 5:00pm.
Hiking into the Amazon and seeing a couple indigenous villages was a priceless experience, the people out there live such different lives than what I come from. Seeing the local wild animals and plants is also mind-boggling. Leticia is a pretty fun town for a couple nights, but very small.
Gonzalo and Martha are super host and do everything possible to meet your needs and requests. While the location is 2 kilometers from downtown, free transportation is offered both ways. The hotel is in a rural area with a nice view of fields and forest from the roof top dining area where a different full breakfast is freshly prepared after you arrive in the dining area. I liked the location, away from tourist and the hustle and bustle. I would stay there again.
Leticia
Lovely lovely place in Leticia. Very central. Was a real pleasure returning every day to my room, with its very comfy bed, and lovely bathroom/shower. I liked it so much I stayed here twice! They also helped me with laundry, which was really nice (and cheap). The owner is lovely, and was very helpful with all my questions. I really recommend this spot in Leticia.
clean and comfortable hotel near Amazon activities, nice big pool to cool off in, excellent included breakfast and also very good and affordable restaurant with extensive menu. good travel agency right across street. near many shops, cafes, and restaurants. a short walk to riverfront and boats. nice blackout curtains.
Leticia
really nice place in the middle of the jungle but at the same time just 20 minutes by bus from the city, we really enjoyed the place and listening to the sounds of the animals during the night! The tours are really nice with local guides and cheaper than the ones you can find in the city of leticia.
The hotel is good for Leticia. We spend a night before and after the Amazon tour at Yurupary. The rooms have everything you need and the hotel is between one of the best restaurants and a supermarket, so everything to prepare for a tour in reach.
Breakfast was good with eggs, bread and marmelade. View out of the room is nice (if you book with view, since there are also rooms without windows). Only 100m to Brasil border. The time we visited Leticia there were nearly no mosquitos.
Leticia
The bungalows were very nice and the beds were comfortable. The hammock in the bungalow is a very nice touch. The hotel has a nice atmosphere. The staff were quite nice and helpful. Ducks were very cute.
Leticia
The staff was super friendly and helpful. The wifi is better than the average wifi in Leticia. I took a few of the Tours they offered and were great with very experienced guides and exceptionally organized.
The hotel was close to everything, the room was air conditioned, the food was good and the pool was fantastic for the kids. After getting off the plane into the Amazonian heat, these things kept us sane.
Leticia
We loved the swimming pool! The staff were helpful and friendly. Would be happy to stay again if we pass through Leticia again. We thoroughly recommend Casa Lucia!
This is a great, well priced hotel about 10-15 mins walk from the main town. Clean facilites, friendly staff. Breakfast was a simple buffet but all tasted good
Location was close to downtown. The hotel was pretty clean in general. The rooms were quite big in comparison to standards you would use in Canada.
We had room with no window..maybe this is typical for Colombia but still a little strange. Good for 1 night stay.
The property is a min Amazonas. Is amazing from the staff, the food, the room and everything else was perfect.
