Seems like a grand hotel which has seen better days. That said, the cost of the hotel is more than reasonable. The rooms were spacious for the price. Hotel staff provided great information for being prepared to explore San Jose and Heredia. The train is a great option (very reliable and relatively quick) to get to San Jose. Heredia is a wonderful area to walk around. Staff provided accurate estimates for taxi costs. Breakfast was an option of white bread toast and butter/jam or cereal. Both come with a banana and coffee/tea.

The Breakfast was fantastic and very generous. They were very helpful and went out of the way to accommodate myself and my Pappion Pet that also got along with her 2 furry family members. I've been visiting CR for over 15 years and after finding her beautiful warm home and great home and the positive atmosphere and the location is very beautiful And very Safe with a security shack at the entrance. And the location is the best I never felt not safe at any one moment. She also owns and operates an excellent restaurant very close to her home. She can accommodate large retreats or corporate get aways..it was so great I have extended my stay for that reason only. I hope this helps you decide. Pura Vida

We loved our stay at Hortensias, the villas are so cute, the little electric fireplace was used a couple nights just to cut the dampness. Had two meals for supper and we enjoyed them, breakfast was also very good. Highly recommend.

Modern apartment was comfortable and suitable for simple meal preparation. A small grocery store is approximately a block away and has basic items for snacks, or a light meal. The neighborhood is safe for walking. Uber was convenient to access restaurants or Britt coffee. One morning our hostess prepared an excellent breakfast for an additional charge. We loved the grounds and were very happy that we chose this accommodation rather than a standard hotel.
