We really enjoyed our stay. The location was really great- just across from the entry to the old town - and our suite for our family of four was a good size. There was also a grocery market with coffee shop very close by which was convenient. We would definitely stay here again.

I liked the location on the Munsterplatz. Other places I wanted to visit were an easy walk away. The tolling of the a huge bell for five minutes at 0600 and 1800 was a shock the first time I heard it but not a major problem. It was fun to watch the daily market vendors set up in the morning and even more fun to search the market for good things to eat. The restaurant in the hotel was excellent.

Commonly known as just Freiburg, Freiburg im Breisgau is equally popular under a different name: the Jewel of the Black Forest. Located at the foot of the Schlossberg hill in the Baden region, the city is best known for its 15th-century university and local vineyards.
Popular for its high quality of living and serving as an entry point to the beautiful Black Forest, Freiburg is the sunniest and warmest city in Germany. The inner city is crossed by plenty of charming canals and if you happen to fall or step into one, the locals say you will marry a Freiburger, so be warned!
Don’t miss the stunning Münster cathedral with famous gargoyles and a tower with spectacular views. It’s built with the red sandstone popular in the area, similar to that used in the Gothic Historical Merchants Hall, also worth a visit.
Strolling down the city’s charming streets is a very pleasurable experience and you can stop in one of the many cosy cafés and little restaurants and enjoy a glass of the local wine or a pint of German beer.

Such a wonderful town with loads of independent shops, larger stores and old buildings. Very pittoreske. We also hiked up the nearby hill (castle hill) and had great views over the town and all the way to the Vosges mountains.

A fairytale city.
A fairytale city. The daily market in the Münsterplatz is wonderful and there are some great traditional restaurants there. The trams are a great way of getting around and the university district has a lovely feeling about it. Everywhere you look there is a view to make you gasp - the Schwarzwald in the distance, the mountains and trees and the three icons of the city, the Münster (cathedral), the Martinstor and the Schwabentor
Gorgeous!

I'd thoroughly recommend Freiburg for a short trip to the edge of the Black Forest. Very laid back, with good coffee and plenty of places for vegans to get something to eat.
It's also well connected via public transport - Basel is only a short ride away and the bus service out to some stunning scenery is really good.

Public transport was excellent, there was a wide range of restaurants, bars and cafes. Good train and bus links to other destinations (I visited Titisee and Strasbourg as well as Schauinsland. The Cathedral and the old and new town hall are well worth visiting, as is the Markthalle and the morning/early afternoon market by the Cathedral. There are several interesting museums but check the opening times. You can get a guide to the museums at Tourist Information and remember that when you pay to enter one museum it entitles you to enter several others with the same ticket. People are friendly and helpful, though it can be a bit of a scrum in some tourist areas. There are many conventional shops in Freiburg and relatively few souvenir shops. I didn't get out into the countryside as often as I should have but there are many popular walking trails. The trams are great for getting around. Just remember that shops are closed on Sundays and cafes often don't open for customers until 9.30. I ate breakfast at the train station each morning: there is a great selection of places to eat. The restaurants, cafes and bars are open on Sunday so you won't starve. When I first arrived late one Saturday evening I could not find the tram station (or the tram line) at the Central Rail Station. Be aware that the tram line is up on a bridge that passes over the railway tracks and the road and you gain access up steps from every platform. I ate great Indian food, fish, sausage-in-a-bun, burgers, cakes and pastries. There is a large selection of local beers.

I travelled to Freiburg for a conference, so had to stay for 4 days! For a tourist visit I guess a day or two would have been enough at Freiburg! It's a very cute city, but it's small too! So I feel one could get bored after 2 days here, but have a lovely experience if the trip is shorter!

We loved this town.
We loved this town. We only stayed one night, could have stayed another 1 - 2 nights quite happily. We randomly met locals and other tourists while eating out (dining at the Krone at an outdoor table, set up on the footpath) and enjoying a wine (near the Muenster waiting for a rain shower to pass) - people generally were chilled and friendly!
The old town and the daily markets were fabulous. It appeared there was a hand crafted market event coming up - we saw vendors setting up around the old town and got a glimpse of some of the items offered and they appeared of high quality and interesting, definitely not run of the mill tourist type momentos. We were sorry we missed the main event.
We didn't get a chance to travel up to the top of Shauinsland, the weather was grey and overcast with low cloud on the morning we would have ventured up there.
The quality of the food and prices were very reasonable, we would visit again given the opportunity.

The hotel is located in a quiet area, very close to the old town, restaurants and the shopping area of Freiburg.
The hotel has a small parking lot (€17/night), but the parking space cannot be reserved. There was no free space when we arrived, but it was not a problem because there is a public parking very close - Zähringer Tor where the parking space costs 12€/24 hours.
Good and varied breakfast.
Modern hotel with high standards of service and comfort. Very pleasant courtyard to relax in. Rooms are spacious with all modern comfort needs. Excellent location with only a short walk into old town area. Very convenient underground car park with direct access to hotel. Freiburg was an excellent base for my motorcycle tour of the Black Forest.
Breakfast was fantastic (huge selection and very tasty) and most of the staff were superb!! The location is ideal, so central but also peaceful. Rooms were clean and nicely laid out. Been to Freiburg many times and this was our favourite hotel so far.
Well-located (close to both hauptbahnhof and altstadt), charming little hotel in Freiburg. Excellent breakfast, comfortable rooms - ours had a wonderful balcony that caught the sun - and aircon, which was a welcome addition during a heatwave!
The apart hotel was very clean and the restaurant served fantastic food and drinnk and was very popular with a fab ouside area. Added bonus of having secure private parking. Easy walk to the old town area of Freiburg.
