The location was great for us and dogs are welcome. The new hotel manager seems very capable and has great ideas but it will be a lot of work for him. Reception staff was very friendly and helpful. Great potential to be a great 4☆ hotel but work needs to be done. Would like to come back at some point to see changes.

Great transport links to get all over the island I would recommend getting a go explorer card, it covers bus, horse tram, steam railway and electric railway. The whole island is clean (didn't see any rubbish laying around or graffiti). I did find the choice of eating out limited after 20:00 but you can always find somewhere. Great little pub at the start of the electric railway The Terminus Inn. Warning the portions are huge! Would I go again? YES its a great place.

Sadly Douglas has lost some of it's past charm..

Sadly Douglas has lost some of it's past charm.. All far too modern . As a visitor for over 6 decades and helper with motor sports , there have been many changes.. Luckily the Rutland Hotel has kept the Manx charm.. The island is still as niice as ever and worth a visit though expensive to get there...

On the whole a pleasant place to stay, the horse drawn tram and electric railway were great. A very good museum well worth the visit. Shopping area disappointing being somewhat run down. I really liked the Isle of Man as a whole, a beautiful place to be

I remember the days of tv adverts ..send for T.V. kelly...

I remember the days of tv adverts ..send for T.V. kelly I.O.M bouchers by post they said and steam packet ships full.. Douglas full of bucket and spade shops open until 8p.m. at least..guest houses full to bursting. Now most shops closed at 5p.m.... some of the once thriving empty seafront former hotels tell that story and being converted to apts.. which may suit a slower pace. Now I am over sixty and as a boy family holidays in IOM was crowded with lots for kids and adults to do..Yes its great to go by electric tram to Laxey , Snafell and the steamtrain to Port Erin they are fantastic. Its still a great little country and maybe the Government have favoured motor bike racing and finance for revenue, but a few tweeks could bring a bit more sparkle to this well run gem in the Irish sea

Douglas is a trip into the past.

Douglas is a trip into the past. Like turning back the clock to a more relaxed age of living in the slow lane. Plenty of things to see around the island. We love visiting Cregneash and afterwards lunch at the Sound. Also Peel is a great little town with Fenella Beach strewn with scallop shells and a trip down to the outdoor cafe selling great food ( try the scallop and bacon sandwiches if they’re on the specials board ) Don’t miss the wildlife centre at the Curragh and take a walk spotting the wild wallabies that inhabit the middle of the island. A boat trip around the Calf of Man is a great afternoon out subject to the tides

Plenty of pubs, restaurants and cafes in Douglas so spoiled for choice, however we thought that, like other UK seaside resorts, it was starting to look a bit tired in places, but still an excellent base to explore other parts of the island.

The hotel is excellently located just off main promenade in Douglas. You have easy access to a number of bars, restaurants and the sea front is just across the road. Staff are friendly and the hotel is clean if a little dated. Breakfast is served each morning with usual range of cereals, juices and fruit and the options of a full fry with staff keen to accommodate your requirements. We had 1 dinner and it was fine. Would recommend this hotel for location and has a nice bar for a drink in the evenings.

Location is good if you have a car - maybe 10 minutes drive into Douglas with plenty of parking, which the Douglas hotels lack. I think there’s a bus service too. Nice spacious room and excellent bathroom with separate walk in shower. Corridors and staircases are a bit basic in decor and carpets but rooms and public areas are fine. Staff were very friendly.

Excellent location for the town/bars/getting off the ferry. Staff were very friendly and helpful. They were more than happy to open the bar when we asked for drinks. We had a nice sea view room and were able to park our scooters in the spaces out front of the hotel. Would definitely stay here again if I return to Douglas.
