History , lots to see & explore, culture You can walk almost everywhere but there is also a very good bus service Wetherspoons was very good & value for money but we stayed in Southsea & the restaurants are good, Greek/Turkish /Italian etc.
Historic dockyard is well worth seeing, also Gunwharf with its shops and restaurants including the Spinnaker tower. Interesting to watch out for the various ships and boats which come and go in to the harbour.
A great place to visit with lots to do and see, as an ex Sailor I loved the Naval Heritage, my wife and friends loved the city shopping, there was so much to see, we just didn't have enough time so another visit is in the planning.
Gun Wharf Quay was great, would go again. Due to inclement weather, was unable to spend much time in the town and sight see, would definitely go ahead, spend a few days to see the sights. Christmas lights at the Quay were excellent.
A beautiful city on the south coast. Good for seeing some sights and a breath of fresh air. Particularly interesting if you enjoy ships or have a naval connection! I would definitely recommend a trip to the historic dockyards.

We changed hotels at the last minute as we were looking for somewhere with secure parking for our campervan, and the Village Hotel fit the bill perfectly. The hotel itself is lovely - obviously very new. Cheap to use the gym, a Starbucks next to reception for our morning bucket of coffee needed due to early start, and a great bar/restaurant. Very handy for the port to catch our ferry to Spain. I hadn’t heard of this chain before but will look out for their other hotels.

Good value for money for our stay. We usually try to stay in one of the Mercer Collection hotels when visiting the Portsmouth area if the room rate is attractive enough. Well appointed, comfortable and spacious rooms in all of their premises we have stayed in, excellent staff and great choice of breakfasts. Only managed to visit their pub once but found the food on that occasion superb.

We had a double room, tuck in the back of the hotel, quite and comfy. The bed was great and we appreciated a proper window to be opened for fresh air. The breakfast was tasty and the staff was nice.
