Beautiful victorian hotel. The staff were so helpful and pleasant especially Adam on the front desk. We would like to thank Adam, Anna and Amelia for making our stay so special. Restaurant food very good. Watch out for add ons. Bar lovely but drinks expensive. Great location across the road from the sea. Was wonderful to watch the boats and the hovercraft.

Portsmouth is a really nice location. We stayed in Gunwharf Quay which is amazing. It's also in easy reach of the old town with it's fish market and pubs. Gunwharf Quay is an amazing place, lots of bars, eateries, shops of all types.

Really liked the historical connections e.g Mary Rose Museum, Southsea Castle. Also very close to the Isle of Wight, with both frequent ferry & hovercraft services. You can also catch a ferry to France, seems to have a good local bus services. If your reasonably fit, most attractions are within easy walking distances and it's fairly flat. Great rail connections with frequent services to London. Also you can catch a ferry to France. Adequate number of pubs and restaurants within the town. Plus there are small shops, bakeries, take-aways and cafes. We stayed fairly close to the train station and there were a lot of closed shops e.g. Debenhams, which had broken windows and graffitti on it.

I loved the location and have enjoyed previous visits but this time I was disappointed with the room , it was small and stuffy , the window wouldn't open, and the toilet absolutely stank, it either had a drainage problem or hadn't been cleaned , whatever the reason it was very unpleasant, I did report to reception the morning of check out and she was interested in what I had to say and logged it , It just spoilt the experience

It is one of those places that has so much to offer, but little is said about it. The naval dockyard is fascinating, and there are some very good pubs and restaurants in the city. Also a very good public transport system. For shopaholics, there's the Gunwharf Quays, with all the usual chains.

The variety of attractions especially of historical significance is not to be missed. There are very good food and refreshment facilities to complement your visit. Allow plenty of time if you need to complete the whole tour of the docklands. Keep baggage weight lightweight as possible to help with fatigue issues.

The Marriott at Portsmouth was a five minute drive from the port. We arrived late at 11pm, but was greeted by a very friendly desk clerk..Our room was bigger than we had anticipated, clean ++ Comfy bed, with convenient lighting. Breakfast was good. Parking at hotel was reasonable at £5 a night, though we were not charged.
