Interesting, very clean, hosts were really lovely.
An important harbour for centuries, Portsmouth counts with one of the busiest ferry piers in the United Kingdom, has the oldest dry dock still in use in the world. Its Historic Dockyard is home to famous British ships like Lord Nelson's flagship HMS Victory, the Mary Rose and the HMS Warrior.
In the picturesque Old Town you’ll find typical English pubs, coloured houses, and small independent shops. It also has a Fish Market provided by the city’s small fishing fleet. In Old Portsmouth is possible to find smaller hotels, B&B’s and guest houses, some of them not far from the ferry harbour.
The Gunwharf Quays are a modernly renovated shopping area, home to the Spinnaker Tower, while the centre has an ever-growing number of shops. Don’t miss Commercial Road and the Cascades Shopping Centre. Hotels in Portsmouth’s city centre allow you to be close to everything what the city has to offer.
For relaxing moments, Portsdown Hill allows panoramic views over the city and the Isle of Wight. During summer, its sandy beaches are a must.

I used to live in Portsmouth, so I may be a bit biased.
I used to live in Portsmouth, so I may be a bit biased. While there are parts that aren't for the causal visitor (like any city) there is a lot to see. It has a wealth of history, beaches and a wide range of cafes/ restaurants/ pubs. Old Portsmouth is a great place to see and soak up the maritime history of the city.
Places to see- Dockyard, Old Porstmouth, Cathedrals x 2, the beaches
Eat- many places
Drink- Old Portsmouth the best, be it the Still & West to watch the ferries or a real old fashioned pub The Pembroke.
Travel- Central Portsmouth and the seafront can be walked, but generally you can find parking in most places (some of it paid for).

Loved the maritime museum.
The spinnaker tower is a delight. Both in the day and night, when it is lit up. A real landmark
Such a clean place. Easy to walk everywhere. We travelled to Portsmouth by train we wouldn't have used our car, as not needed.
Gunwharf area is so well presented.
We need to return, as so much more to fit in

Good selection of choices for eating and drinking
As the island city it is compact, so nothing is very far. It also benefits from being relatively flat with lots of seating which makes walking practical option

First time staying near Portsmouth and third time visiting...
First time staying near Portsmouth and third time visiting the Historic Dockyard to see the Mary Rose and museum, HMS Victory and HMS Warrior. This time also stepped aboard the M-33 and the various buildings housing the ship figureheads, Nelson information and Boathouse 4. Lucky in contrast, to also have the aircraft carriers Prince of Wales and Elizabeth moored nearby. We spent 1.5 days at the dockyard and still couldn't fit in the water bus, submarine or explosion museum. The Spinnaker tower is perfect for watching the shipping come and go and for having a cream tea high above ground. The many ferries and hovercraft make getting to the Isle of Wight easy. The Gun Wharf shopping centre nearby has a good selection of shops and restaurants and further along the coastline, the round and square towers to see. Further along the coast towards Southsea, there is adventure golf, arcades, aquarium, D-day landing museum and The Briny, fish restaurant which is well worth a visit.

See reviews by guests who stayed at hotels in Portsmouth
The location was great, especially for the esplanade and beach. There was parking outside the property, and a bus stop directly outside the hotel that I used to get into Portsmouth city centre and back. The hotel and room were clean and the decour was lovely. The staff were super friendly and helpful. There was plenty of choice for breakfast, and it was delicious.
Great location for Gunwharf Quays shopping and Portsmouth train station/harbour. Rooms are small but comfortable, slightly affected by the noise outside from night time revellers but hotel itself was quiet. Breakfast was acceptable with enough choice to suit most tastes. Great parking prices, first 24 hours free and then £2 per day.
We had the best time in Portsmouth. So much to do and see. The hotel is in the best location. So close to the bars and beach. This is my second time staying at this hotel and I love it. It was my friends birthday and they upgraded us to sea view. Overall would recommend.
The hotel is centrally located for the various naval attractions in Portsmouth and the shops, restaurants and bars in the Gunwharf Quays complex.
Our room was comfortable, clean and light.
The breakfasts were good with plenty of choice.
