I recently had the pleasure of staying at Malmaison Reading for my business trip and was impressed by the exceptional level of service throughout my visit. From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was warm, professional, and welcoming. A special thanks to Stella, who made the experience even more memorable. Her friendly attitude, professionalism, and genuine hospitality stood out from the very beginning. She was attentive and helpful, ensuring every detail of my stay was comfortable and enjoyable. Her attitude is a great example of the service the hotel delivers. The hotel itself was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, offering a relaxing environment. Its location - directly opposite Reading Station and conveniently close to coach services to and from Heathrow - made it an excellent choice for my business trip. Over the last couple of months I have had several excellent stays at Malmaison Reading and would highly recommend it to anyone seeking quality service, comfort, and a genuinely welcoming experience.

FAQs about hotels in Reading

Work and Play Beside the Thames

At the meeting point of the Thames and Kennet rivers, affluent Reading is close to London, yet far enough to feel completely different. For this reason it is an important business hub, particularly for IT. The M4 motorway runs directly from here to Heathrow Airport, and trains from its station terminate at Paddington.

The town has literary connections to Jane Austen – whose school was in the Abbey Gateway – and Oscar Wilde, who was imprisoned in its jail. Nowadays, the Reading Festival is its biggest cultural event and has earned a place in the town hall museum. However, its most impressive exhibit is a replica of the Bayeux Tapestry.

The Reading shopping options include Broad Street and The Oracle, a riverside complex also housing bars, cinemas and restaurants. The river continues south to one of the town’s green spaces, some housing golf courses. Forbury Gardens features a bandstand and large lion statue, and next door are ruins of an abbey founded by Henry I.

Potential day trips include the Roman remains at Silchester, and river cruises to Henley-on-Thames, while sport lovers should visit the Madejski Stadium, home of Reading FC and London Irish rugby club.

Booking.com’s Reading accommodation includes hotels with spas, cheap apartments and guest houses with parking.

Reading is a friendly compact city with a good train station...

Reading is a friendly compact city with a good train station, only a 30 min journey to/from London. Not too far from heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted airports, also on Elizabeth line. The main historic attractions in Read are it's extremely old ruin Abbey and Minster church. Alos Reading Museum and the Museum of English Rural Life. Friar Street is the main street, with cafes, bars/pubs, reastaurants and shops. A whendy's is on the corner of Friars street, close to the Ivis hotel, an inexpensive option for couples and singles for a night or two. Reading has a university, so lots of young people about, mixed race communities. Nearby attractions include Highclere Castle, where Downton Abbey was filmed, near Newbury. Legoland Winsor Resort. Reading also hosts the anual Reading music festival at the end of every August. Good places for conferences and for business. The is mostly flat and there local bus that service the town and nearby suburbs.

Staff very helpful,we had a drink in the large white building and the bar man was extremely hardworking and made time to talk and make us feel welcome !Sign posting to the lodge could have been a little clearer ,our daughter and sister who have stayed on 2different occasions said this too but this is the only small negative we can find to say.Breakfast excellent and room clean and comfortable.

Reading itself is not the best of areas, the Oracle shopping...

Reading itself is not the best of areas, the Oracle shopping area is nice and the high-street is well equipped with the staple shops you'd want. The University is also quite good, but not exactly a tourist attraction. Most of the attractions "in the area" are actually not in the area, for example Windsor, Blenheim Palace etc. Beyond that its derelict buildings, boarded up shops, council houses and bad headlines in the newspaper.

Reading was a delight. Black cab driver was exceptional.

Reading was a delight. Black cab driver was exceptional. Courteous to other drivers and extremely kind and helpful to me. His name sounded something like Merisha (Pakistan) . A good human being. Everyone in Reading was so nice. It was surprising so close to London. Gail’s coffee shop was excellent.

Wonderful stay!

Wonderful stay! The hotel has a lovely historic charm, the room was spotless and very comfortable, and the breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. A big thank you to the manager and all the staff for being so friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We also really appreciated the room upgrade! We had a fantastic 2 nights here and would definitely stay again if we're back in Reading.

this hotel is very convenient for the town centre shops which are just around the corner and the train station is about 10 minutes walk. The attached Indian restaurant was very good for an evening meal. Staff were helpful and friendly. They offer a coffee machine in the reception area, free to use. The room had laminate flooring which in my opinion is a far better option for room hygiene. I would stay again should I be in Reading another time.

Very welcoming staff who couldn’t do enough for us, including sorting out an early breakfast as our daughter’s graduation ceremony was first thing. The hotel was spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated, roomy and comfortable. Our shower was nice and powerful too. It was also nice to be able to park on site for no extra charge and only took 20 minutes to walk into Reading town centre. Thoroughly recommend and would stay here again.

A very cheap hotel, but newly decorated in a modern style. No frills, but all functional. It definitely met the benchmark for budget hotels. The room was a decent size, with a functional shower/toilet cubicle. I didn't eat the food, but the small selection on the bar in the lobby looked decent. Well located for Reading city centre.

It's the cheapest hotel in Reading. Sheets and towels were clean. TV and internet in room. Soap provided. Staff very friendly. For a short stay it does the job. However it isn't the sort of hotel you would stay at for that special weekend!
