South Shields has a stunning coastline, lovely parks, interesting history and has an excellent range of restaurants and shops and good public transport. It's a friendly welcoming place. The main streets are easy to negotiate on foot as the layout is mainly straight lines/grid ? from its Roman history. There's a museum and art gallery, an information centre with a great section of archive material. All in all a lovely place to visit.

The weather wasn't great but I'm sure in summer its a lovely spot with interesting features nearby. There seems to be a lot of renovation and building in the town to gentrify it so it looks worth a longer investigation

    Plenty to see and do.

Plenty to see and do. I attended a conference on the Romans on Hadrian‘s Wall at the Customs House organised by the wonderful Arbeia Society. As for bodily matters I had a delicious fish and chips lunch at the Customs House during our break. I strongly recommend a visit to the Arbeia Roman Fort which gives a fascinating insight into the Roman occupation of Britain. The on site museum houses some fascinating artefacts such as for instance the Regina tombstone.

Mainly visited because of this hotel.

Mainly visited because of this hotel. If it had a shuttle transport to the bus/Metro interchange it would be perfect. In nice weather a nice walk to the good Marine park, swim pool and lots more.

South Shields has a lovely beach which doesn't get crowded.

South Shields has a lovely beach which doesn't get crowded. There's a pleasure park and also a large indoor soft play and bowling alley. There's lots of free entertainment for families during the summer holidays including concerts. Lots of restaurants to eat out so you'll be spoilt for choice. Locals are very friendly. Lots of lovely places to visit a short drive away. Good metro service for getting to and from Newcastle. The town centre however needs updating.

There were enough choices for breakfast including a full breakfast and lighter options. Cereal and fruit juice was available was well as the tea and coffee. The owner was friendly and helpful. We appreciated the flexibility of breakfast not being included as we were unsure of our plans. The room had everything we needed and a fridge with milk supplied which was nicer than the pre-packaged milk. There is a variety of restaurants on Ocean Road and we found a place to eat each evening without booking.

The property was in a great location, a short walk to the promenade and as we had a concert it was easy to get to the stadium by taxi. The staff got back to you via message or call as the hotel is not manned. The codes and access were easy to navigate and staff were polite. There was tea and coffee stocked up and overall I would say a comfortable stay apart from some slight niggles.

The Croft is near South Shields beach and other local facilities and just 30 minutes from Newcastle City Centre. They were very accommodating with our later-than-planned check-in and the rooms were clean, larger than expected and included en-suite toilet/shower, microwave, fridge-freezer and kettle. There's a free car park across the road

A really warm welcome after a 4 hour drive was really nice considering it was late. Check in was slick and easy and the security of the hotel was really good with pin yale locks on the front door and all room doors. Morning breakfast was tasty (I had scrambled eggs) and service was very nice.
