Featuring a subterranean spa, a geothermal lagoon and a restaurant that re-imagines Iceland’s culinary traditions, this 62-suite luxury hotel is encircled by the Blue Lagoon’s mineral-rich waters. Everything was excellent from start to finish. Superb hotel and staff. Best hotel we have stayed in. Looking forward to a return visit.
Offering breakfast and a 24-hour reception, the modern Geo Hótel Grindavík is located in Grindavík, 6 km from the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa. WiFi and parking are free. Location is close to Blue Lagoon, room is much more bigger than I thought. Warm, full-equipment and clean.
This family-owned hotel features a wellness spa, fitness centre and a fireplace lounge with panoramic views. Free shuttle buses run to and from the Blue Lagoon, just 1 km away. Great breakfast, comfortable beds. A quick drive from the airport which was a pleasant surprise, especially after 32 hours of flights and transfers. The tower room is cool, you can see a 360 degree view of the area, even in the dark of 9am mid- winter. The geothermal plant is lit with coloured lights and the stream coming out is very dramatic. The hotel is very close to the Blue Lagoon, which is great, - we didn’t there go as it was pouring with rain and dark and windy, but I imagine it is perfect for a clear day. The lounge area is great, plenty of room to relax and the honesty bar and couches are another space to be comfortable in. The hotel celebrates the Santas of Christmas, the first two were in the lobby when we arrived with a row of children’s shoes underneath- we fell asleep after our long trip before the kids put their shoes out so we didn’t find out if they would receive sweets or potatoes!! Overall a very comfortable first night in Iceland.
Set in Grindavík, Harbour View Cottages Grindavik offers free WiFi and mountain views, 8 km from Blue Lagoon. The views are amazing across the harbour. The restaurants were limited but food was AMAZING and people are very friendly. It was an excellent base to discover the south side of Iceland including the Blue Lagoon, Reykjavik and the Golden Circle. Shopping at the local Netto was excellent too as it saved us a huge amount of money.
Set 4.3 km from Blue Lagoon in Grindavík, Lágafell Guesthouse features free WiFi access and free private parking. Shared bathrooms are found on each floor. Good location near Blue lagoon, friendly owner welcomed us even early morning. Great beds, very quiet
Located 8 km from Blue Lagoon, Sunnu Private room near the Blue Lagoon / Airport provides accommodation with a garden, a shared lounge and a shared kitchen for your convenience. Free WiFi is... Very happy with our stay. Owners are really welcoming and friendly, the room and the whole place were spotless clean and comfortable. Breakfast was not included, but we were offered jam, tea, coffee and much more...
Reykjanes Guesthouse is set in Grindavík. The property is non-smoking and is located 8 km from Blue Lagoon. Guest rooms in the guest house are equipped with a kettle. Very spacious room, in a photo looks twice smaller. One metre away there's a cozy and really nice restaurant. Perfectly fits if you traveling with a group of friends
Located in Grindavik, Anita’s Guest House offers free private on-site parking, WiFi and access to a garden with a sun terrace. Convenient location, close to restaurants, services and airport. Facilities were great and Anita was very accommodating, helpful and a terrific hostess!!!
Just a 10-minute drive from Blue Lagoon, Mar Guesthouse offers self-service accommodation in Grindavík. Guests have access to a shared kitchen and garden. Free WiFi is available. Everything! The room here was huge as was the bathroom. The kitchen is fully kitted out and the beds very comfy. The view wasn't fantastic but it is in a small town about 20 mins drive from the airport so perfect for first or last night stops.
A good place for an overnight stop if you’re going to the blue lagoon. There were a couple of places to eat which were recommended by our guest house host, and the Fish Bar where we went was great for a late dinner with live music.
Nice but very small place. Proximity to Blue Lagoon was great, otherwise not much to see. picked it as it does not have as much city light as Reykjavik which should make it better for watching Aurora Boreal, but they did not show.
Lovely little town. Easily accessible to everything if you’re driving. The little fuel station has a small shop with take away food which is amazing. Netto is down the road as is the blue lagoon which on the Grindavík side of the mountain is a great spot for the lights. Other parts of my review are in a picture attached. Main places we loved were Seljalandsfoss, Gullfoss and the Lava Restaurant.
Grindavik is a very good location to stay on your last day in Iceland. Especially if you have spent most of your days touring around by car , you just want to rest on your last day and be close to the airport for the early morning flight.I also will recommend you to visit Blue Lagoon on your last day. It is too expensive- still it is worth experiencing. One of the best times I've ever had in my LIFE. We actually had booked Secret Lagoon first on our 1st day but because our car broke down , we missed our booking and had to lead to Vik. Our last stay was in Grindavik so by chance we had a chance to book for Blue Lagoon on this day ( don't do that , book earlier...) ,with a lot of hesitation (due to price) ,we made the booking...And it was really worth it. !!!
The Blue Lagoon is a must. I would highly recommend The Retreat Spa experience, especially in winter as there are a lot of additional things to do in the spa itself. Sauna, steam, relaxation rooms, a great cafe as well as access to the lagoon. The public side of the lagoon is fun as well, with a swim up bar and cafeteria. It is so much easier to stay in Grindavik and spend the day at Blue Lagoon then come from Reykavik. Lava, the restaurant at the retreat was excellent, offering Icelandic specialties such as fresh fish dishes, lamb, seafood soup and delicious desserts. The Spa cafe was excellent as well- have the hummus with warm seed crackers!
We stayed at Grund Guesthouse in Grindavik and our host was amazing. She made us all feel really welcome and went above and beyond when my husband thought he'd lost his passport. The guesthouse was lovely and very clean with great decor and would highly recommend staying there.

The beds were a little firm but ok. The kitchenette area in our room had a decent amount of items if you wanted to prepare food. The restroom was in our room and pretty large. The water pressure was great. The town of Grindavik is cute with a few restaurants in the area and a convenience store/gas station. We were able to drive about 5 minutes away and see the northern lights. The blue lagoon is only about 15 minutes away.

We loved the fact that the house was very tidy and fully equipped. The kitchen was ready to be used by anyone and breakfast was as well open, allowing us full flexibility in terms of wake up time (breakfast food was available in the fridge). On top of that, the host was really nice to show us what can be done around Grindavik and as thus we realized what a wonderful area it is and how many points of interest are around there.

Cutest room we slept in. Very clean and trendy interior. Loved the massage shower. Great location (only 20min to KEF Airport & roughly 5min to the Blue Lagoon). Self service breakfast (including cereals, toast, yoghurt, coffee). Big thank you to our wonderful host. We appreciated your recommendations regarding dinner places and sights around Grindavík.

Fab hotel, mega comfy beds, pillows and duvet. New hotel so lovely and clean. Breakfast basic but more than enough choice. Would definitely recommend. Less than 10 mins from blue lagoon. Black out curtains a bonus as 24 hours daylight in July.

Unique property, very good value, clean and just overall a cool place to stay! Stunning views and quiet. Left us a bottle of fizz to mark our special occasion, thanks all at Grindavik for a fantastic stay. We'll definitely be back!
