Easy to navigate once familiar with signage. Felt maybe there could have been more available buses however taxis were prompt up to between 7-8 pm in the evening only. There was no available persons to chat with at the railway station which impacted on plans to visit other places of interest. The highlight of our visit was Montecassino Abby , steeped in history of the world war it was Amazing , my second visit there in 2 years bringing a friend along who’s Polish father fought in the war!! We are Orthodox Christian monastics from New Zealand and we came to visit St Benedict's Monastery. I have been twice before but brought my daughter, a nun, this time. Last time I visited the war graves and was profoundly moved and saddened by recalling the entire battle scene that once occurred in this area. No one prospers in a war, ever, but the rebuilding of the once bombed monastery is a testimony to the faith and loving care in the hearts of the people of this town. We found all the people we met to be very hospitable and friendly. It was local young Asians whom we asked for directions to a Chinese restaurant, for example, and were delightfully surprised just how multiculturant Cassino has now become. It was a joy to be here and we were blessed in our stay. We highly recommend Boteroom accomodation here, the Tai Wan restaurant, a tour of St Benedict Monastery and a sunset stroll on the piazza. The villa is gorgeous and immaculate. Decorated splendidly - every detail - tablecloths, cups, tile, all gorgeous The host is personable and helpful. We had a lovely conversation. The golden retriever welcomed me when i pulled in The air is fresh and clean -- mountain air. Quiet neighborhood - excellent for retreat. Just up the road is a wonderful family owned restaurant to have dinner. Definitely need a car up here. Be careful walking on the roads -- the traffic comes fast and there are no pedestrian sidewalks. This is a first rate hotel to stay in particularly if you are interested in WW2. We had stayed in a different hotel on an earlier visit, and we think Edra Palace was better. Staff being helpful was a great bonus. Ambience and sitting outside was great. The town of Cassino has lovely streets to walk and explore many restaurants. Naturally a visit to the Abbey is a must and worth it. There is a shuttle departing from the station for 1€. There are other military museums which my husband loved. Believe me, the walk is a steep uphill all the way up! Where we stayed, we were afforded stunning views of the town below and misty mountains. The church bells play a minute long tune at 7am. Worth rushing out to capture or listen to. The bus and trains run like clockwork. Don’t miss this town.Guest review byHanlieSouth Africa
