Very quiet little town with beautiful historical objects - temples, museum, first in Japan school with possibility to check your knowledge, anyone can do the test sitting on tatami floor at the low table, with the view to Japanese garden. very nice historical streets. Perfect for those who are looking for a quiet historical Japan outside of busy city life. No need to use taxi to go to Asikaga park; train there goes not every 10 minutes, but will save you lots of money.
I was visiting my daughter who just moved to Ksnuma a hour north if Ashikaga , the drive along roue 293 at the height of cherry blossom season was indescribably beautiful. Hotel I stayed at was a great bargain and had a gergous view if the city. Zinwas there foe a luncheon and did not have enough time to explore this little gem of a city. I will be back.
We went to Ashikaga to see the flower park which was further away from our hotel than what I originally thought. But it turned out to be okay because there was a sento close to our hotel. On Saturday we went back to the flower park and went hiking on a mountain path. We liked the area and we were happy that we drove.
Very beautiful city! I have visited 4-5 different temples and shrines, looks very beautiful and possible to come inside really enjoy it. Recommended just walk through Main Street you will see some small temples and shrines if you will walk from the city to Ashikaga flower park, it a bit far but really interesting
The Kurita Museum is wonderful. An extensive collection of very beautiful porcelain, plus exhibits devoted to the history and manufacture of ceramics, in a range of superb buildings in a fabulous park-like location. A great museum.
